That was something I never wanted her to shoulder.

“We’re going home.”

CHAPTER 17

Remember that dude you thought you couldn’t live without? Now, look at you, happily sucking other dick.

-Text from Folsom to Morrigan

FOLSOM

So maybe the first text that I’d sent her in a really long time—longer than either she or I wanted to admit—shouldn’t have been about me seeing her sucking dick.

But shit, my eyes were freakin’ fried!

When I’d seen what I’d seen, I’d decided to wait my ass out on the front porch step.

It took her thirty minutes to see the text.

I heard the shriek from somewhere in the house and got up, backing away from the front door because I wasn’t quite sure what I was going to do. Or what she was going to do, for that matter.

She would be perfectly within her rights to deck me.

She came out onto the front porch looking wild, eyes a little bit crazy, and still sporting that “I freshly sucked a dick” face.

She took a whole two seconds to look at me, eyes eating me up when she pounced.

The punch I expected.

The way her body hit mine, certainly not.

We both went down to the ground, the only thing cushioning the blow was a couple of bags of mulch that were near a flower bed by the front door.

Pain radiated in my right shoulder, but I wasn’t as worried about any bruising, thanks to the medication shipment that arrived the day that we decided to leave.

I’d driven my bus six hours, from Daytona to Accident, and thought and rethought about all the things that I needed to do the moment I got home.

The first stop, bus in tow, was at Aodhan’s place.

One, because I needed somewhere to park my bus that wasn’t in front of my house—even being the creator of my homeowner’s association wouldn’t allow me to park a bus in front of my house for any length of time, the street was just way too small. Two, because I needed to see my best friend first.

She’d never forgive me if I came into town and didn’t make the first stop to see her.

And I knew she’d find out if I spent any length of time here without seeing her.

So there I was, with her arms and legs around me.

“Jesus fucking Christ, wife,” Aodhan bellowed from somewhere beyond the front door. “You’re six months pregnant. You’re not going to do that again, or I’ll spank your ass myself.”

I looked wide-eyed at Morrigan, who was now blushing. “You are already six months?”

She leaned up, straddling my legs and beamed like the sun was shining only on her. “Six months. You came back in the perfect amount of time.”

Then, without a chance to explain, she reared back and punched me straight in the left boob.

“Ow!” I cried out, placing my hand over the offended area. “That hurt!”

“It was supposed to!” she yelled. Then immediately burst into tears.

I sat up and wrapped my hands around her, placing my head against her very ample chest—which I could now tell was hella bigger—and held her until she was done.

“Mother,” JP said. “Did you know Aunt Morr is sitting on top of you naked, and you have your face between her boobies?”

I blinked, just now realizing how the situation looked and turned to find an audience of people staring at us, watching the spectacle.

“JP!” Morr cried. “Come here!”

JP shook her head. “No offense, Aunt Morr, but I’m going to need you to put on some pants.”

Giggling, she stood up, offering me her hand as she did.

I watched Aodhan’s t-shirt, the one that’d been on Aodhan’s body when we got there, slide down to cover her panties.

When I looked back toward the group, it was to find Aodhan’s large body standing in front of Kobe, who was looking at the two of us, seemingly utterly bored.

“I swear I’ll conduct myself better next time,” she whirled on me, her finger in my face now. “There better not be a next time!”

I bit my lip and wisely didn’t say anything to her.

Only when we were inside, Morr once again fully dressed, did JP get her hug.

They sat together on the couch while Morr chattered along, asking about the circus and how the last year had been. Meanwhile, Aodhan asked us about the investigation and if anything had changed since a few days ago when they last talked.

“Other than Natalie Dean requesting a lawyer and clamming up, nothing,” I said. “Though, online activity on Lisbeth and Farrell,” I paused when I heard Morrigan spit a curse between words with my daughter, letting me know that she was semi-listening to the conversation, “has definitely taken a hike. Farrell is trying to cover his ass, making sure to delete accounts that he used to get through the dark web to get to that particular site that he made the deal on. All of this is being noted by the FBI, though. From what I was able to tell, they’ve already started monitoring all of his accounts and internet activity. He’ll slip up, and they’ll be caught eventually, too.”
