“Jagger went to lay down on your couch and refused to get back up,” he said, licking the seam of my lips. “I took that to mean he was out for the night and not getting back up.”

I grinned. “Probably.”

“Can’t say that I’m upset about it,” he admitted. “If I’d brought him, I wouldn’t have caught you masturbating in my kitchen.”

I snorted. “I wasn’t masturbating. I was trying to ease the ache by pressing the heel of my hand down on my clit.”

“Did it work?” he wondered, swiveling his hips.

He was no longer hard, but his cock was still substantial inside of me, meaning that the move elicited a moan from my lips.

That was about when the timer went off on the cinnamon rolls, forcing us both apart even though we’d rather stay together like that forever.

He grasped the bottom of the condom and pulled free. I got up and walked hurriedly to the kitchen.

Snatching the dishtowel up off the side of the sink, I walked to the oven and pulled the food out, setting it on the counter on a cutting board.

After turning off the oven, I once again replaced the dishtowel where it went, then felt Pace’s hips press up against my ass, pinning me back to the counter, this time with my back to him.

“I’ve wanted nothing more than to do this so many times,” he growled into my ear. “I’ve wanted to bend you over my counter as you’ve cooked for me. Fuck you on the dinner table when you bent over at my side to place my plate in front of me. God, do you have any idea how fucking sexy you are?”

No, no, I had no idea.

Because had I had an idea? We would’ve definitely done this much, much sooner.

Chapter 13

Congratulations with getting through the easiest part of life.

-Pace to a high school graduate

Pace

“What’s with that look on your face?”

I looked over at Justice, my partner for the day, and shrugged.

“Thinking about my woman,” I said. “She had a doctor’s appointment today and I haven’t heard back from her yet.”

“Call her,” he suggested.

I looked at my watch.

It’d been two hours since the appointment was scheduled, but I didn’t want to bother her if she was busy.

I also didn’t want to seem overly eager and smother her with my concern, either.

“Based on the way that you two are together,” he said. “I highly doubt that she’s going to be mad that you’re concerned about her. Just send her a text.”

I decided to take his advice and shot one off, immediately feeling better that I’d reached out.

Pace: Everything going okay?

I went back to eating my Subway sandwich and kept my eyes on the room around us instead of staring longingly at my phone.

“Your best friend just walked in,” Justice said.

I looked up to find Sergeant Jackson entering dressed in uniform. He was talking to his wife, who meekly followed behind him like a scared puppy.

I grimaced and turned away.

“Oh joy to the world,” I muttered darkly under my breath.

Justice laughed.

I looked up at him and saw that he was watching Jackson with a narrow-eyed look.

“Don’t,” I said. “He’ll just come over here.”

And he did. Catching Justice looking at him, he couldn’t stop himself.

“I’m loving the outfits,” Jackson teased amusingly. “They’re really quite attractive. Linda, what do you think of their uniforms?”

She looked like she’d rather gnaw off her own arm than answer the question.

But when Jackson looked at her like she would regret it if she didn’t answer, she quickly said, “They’re quite revealing.”

I would’ve laughed had she not flinched and ducked at Jackson’s obvious disapproval of what she’d said.

Justice sat back in his seat and stared at Jackson as if he was an interesting bug.

“Why’d you ask for her opinion if you weren’t interested in it?” Justice challenged.

Jackson narrowed his eyes on Justice.

“And what did you do to get into the reject unit?” he asked. “Fuck your boss’s wife?”

Justice rolled his eyes.

“It was his daughter,” Justice replied. “And I didn’t know that she was my sergeant’s daughter. I just saw a pretty girl that wanted to give me head, so I allowed it to happen. Had I known that it was going to happen that way, I definitely would’ve kept it in my pants.”

Jackson snorted. “I’m sure you would have. I’m sure you also would’ve not done that particular sting operation, too. Don’t you wish you’d said no?”

Justice, before coming to our unit, had been on the undercover unit. Something had gone wrong on the last operation he’d done, and he’d been put on administrative leave for almost two weeks while they investigated what had happened. After ascertaining that it wasn’t Justice’s fault, they’d reinstated him. However, they’d also moved him to the motor patrol unit, as well as given him a warning that if he stepped out of line again, it was very possible that he’d be fired.
