Now my real work would begin. And I was a man who really, really loved his job.

Chapter Thirty-Nine

Claire

“Hunter,” I gasped, tugging at his hair. He was licking me slowly, ignoring my clit and taking his sweet ass time with it. Meanwhile, I was more than ready for the main event. I was way past ready. I was desperate.

But I could tell he was going to keep me on the brink for a while . . . damn him. I wiggled, my need overwhelming my sense of dignity. I had no decorum left. I wanted Hunter inside me. Now.

“Hunter!” I squealed. He chuckled, his hot breath fanning my sensitive skin. Finally, he took mercy on me, dragging a thumb over my clit and pressing down. I gasped as he slid his tongue inside me at the same time and brought me to orgasm so fast it made my head spin.

“Please, Hunter, I want you,” I begged, still coming, reaching down to pull him up to me. I wanted him to slide his cock inside me while I was still coming and—

He did exactly what I wanted him to do. I whimpered helplessly as he speared me with his magnificent cock. I could barely think or breathe. I definitely could not speak.

If I could have, I would have told him how he was making me feel. That I loved him. That I was over the moon to become his wife.

Instead, all I could do was groan, making soft mewling sounds like a little kitten. It didn’t take long before my fiancé was coming too. His big body shook helplessly, losing his tempo, shuddering from the pleasure of our bodies coming together. He called out my name, saying that he loved me, saying that I was his and he was mine . . . forever.

After our bodies cooled, he led me into the kitchen, put on an apron with nothing underneath it, and cooked an incredible meal.

We ate, me wrapped in a sheet, him sitting bare-assed with a frilly apron borrowed from Gran on the kitchen chairs. Afterward, we popped champagne, took it to bed, and made love until dawn.

I could never remember being happier.

I was engaged.

I was getting married.

I was going to be Hunter’s wife.

Chapter Forty

Hunter

“This is the place?”

“This is our place,” Cain said with a barely raised eyebrow. “But I’m willing to share it. Just not suite 702.”

“Not your suite. Got it.”

I stared around the hotel. It was fancier inside than I’d expected. There weren’t a ton of five-star hotels in the middle of nowhere near the small town we lived in, but somehow, Cain had found one. I’d been here before, of course, watching out for Cain and his lady when the killer was still on the loose.

“They have a lot of conventions here,” Trace offered unhelpfully. “I get crazy intel with a basic sweep.”

“That’s need to know,” Vice said with an eyeroll. “Keep that shit on the down low, Trace.”

“Whatever, jackoff. We are in the company of friends.”

“The walls have eyes,” Vice threw back at him. Trace nodded solemnly.

“You’re not wrong there, brother.”

I shook my head. Trace was incredibly paranoid about ‘big brother’ and how everything was recorded somewhere. I knew he wasn’t wrong. But the guy was obsessed. He was always quoting his favorite movie, Cabin in the Woods. One of the characters said that society wasn’t crumbling. It was binding. Filling in all the cracks.

Even I had to admit that it made sense. It was one of the reasons Cain had steered the club away from criminal activity, though not entirely. It was impossible to keep a bunch of badass gearheads from breaking the law. Still, even the dumbest of the guys knew it was a lot easier to get caught with surveillance cameras all over the damned place.

But I didn’t feel the need to talk about it all the damned time, either.

“Can we fucking focus?” Mason said, clearly feeling the same way I did, although Mason was famously low-tech. It had taken years for the fucker to even get a cellphone. “We have one week to pull off a wedding. And from what I understand, the bride doesn’t even know it’s happening yet.”

“Wait, what?”

Heads snapped toward me. I cleared my throat.

“I told her I would handle it.”

“Did you give her a date?” Vice demanded. He might not have a steady lady, but he had sisters. He was giving me a look that told me clearly that I had fucked up.

Maybe I had. But I wasn’t going to wait a day longer than needed to make her my wife. And Claire was just going to have to deal with that.

“She’ll come around. It’ll be fine.”

A loud noise came from Cain. It sounded like a snort. He was . . . laughing at me. I stared at him, then at Mason. Even Connor’s shoulders were shaking. Only the single guys were nodding. They looked about as stupid as I felt.
