Ending it was the easiest thing to do.

Harlow was just a woman. She wasn’t club. If Big Dick hadn’t been her brother, it wouldn’t have mattered. There would be other women. Other pussy. She wasn’t the only one for him.

Taking another long slug of his whiskey, he intended to drown his sorrows, to feel numb. The club didn’t fucking need him tonight.

The whiskey wasn’t doing the trick, even after he had taken a quarter of the bottle. He lifted the bottle to his lips and then looked toward the door, partly expecting Harlow to come crashing through and starting a fight.

It wasn’t Harlow. It was a man, older than Harlow, but not by much.

The guy looked a lot like Big Dick. It must be one of his brothers, but he couldn’t remember which one. Big Dick had a lot of brothers and only one little sister.

“Jude,” Big Dick said, getting to his feet and hugging his brother. “Long time, no see. Everyone, this is my little brother, Jude. Are you still thinking about joining the gang, little brother?”

“George, stop. You have to come.”

“What do you think, Smokey? We got a place for my little brother in the gang? I know he’d be a good prospect. I can vouch for him.”

“It’s Harlow!” Jude shoved his brother away and yelled.

The club went silent and Hunter tensed up.

“What?” Big Dick said.

“Harlow’s in the hospital. Jonah, the preacher, he was heading back into town or something, and saw her car off the road. Harlow’s in the hospital. Mom and Dad asked me to come and get you. It’s … it’s bad.”

“What do you mean her car was off the road?”

Jude turned toward Raven who had asked the question.

“She skidded on the ice?” Big Dick asked.

“No,” Jude said. “Her car is too banged up. Mom and Dad went to the hospital, I went and helped retrieve her car. Someone was trying to run her off the road, George, and seeing as she works for the club, I figured you ought to know.”

“She’s at the hospital?” Big Dick asked.

“Yeah, but…”

Big Dick was already heading out the door.

Ava and Smokey were also heading that way, as were Raven and Carlos. Hunter couldn’t stay behind. He had to know she was okay and he made his way out of the clubhouse.

He had to make sure she was alive.

Someone ran his sister off the road.

Big Dick looked at his baby sister. She was hooked up to tubes. Her face was bruised and he imagined that was from the impact of the steering wheel.

Anger consumed him.

He gripped the railing at the end of the bed. His mother had already thrown accusations at him, and he’d given her a look that told her to shut the fuck up. He loved his mom, respected his parents, but that love didn’t even come close to what he felt for Harlow.

Big Dick adored his little sister. From the moment she was born, he had vowed to always take care of her. He promised to love and protect her, and now she was in the hospital, and from what he had heard the doctors saying, she had also been pregnant, but the impact from the car had caused her to lose the baby. She had miscarried in the car, in the freezing conditions. He didn’t even know she was dating someone.

Anger traveled down his spine. Twisted Bastards MC had done this. He didn’t even need to guess. His search had come up with nothing. They had become ghosts and Big Dick didn’t like ghosts.

Harlow would recover. He didn’t know how she was going to handle the fact she had lost her baby, or even get behind the wheel of a car again.

Another rush of anger consumed him. He needed to kill, felt a thirst to hurt, but he had to wait.

Some of the club had come with him as he knew they would. All her life, Harlow had struggled to make friends, but amongst the club women, because of Ava, she had found her place. He would forever be indebted to Ava for giving his sister a chance. He knew she wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but Ava had opened her shop and for that, he was grateful.

Letting go of the railing, he moved around to the side of the bed and reached out. He stroked her cheek, tucking some of her hair behind her ear.

“I will find out who did this,” he said. “And I will make them pay. I promise you, Harlow. You will never go through this again.” He pressed a kiss to her forehead.

Ignoring his parents, he walked out to the waiting room. Ava was standing by the door, tears in her eyes.

“How is she?”

Big Dick looked at Ava and then toward Smokey and across the group that had arrived. He ran a hand down his face. “She’s stable, for now. She lost a lot of blood.” Big Dick pressed his lips together.
