Of course, after the scare he’d suffered, there was a good chance Damon didn’t give one fuck whether Red treated him like a pig or a baby, just so long as he was safe.
Red held the pig tight in his arms and started back for the house. Sky planted a hand on the ground and prepared to push himself up. A hand appeared in front of his face. He followed it up a long arm to a strong shoulder to a beautiful smiling man.
“Aren’t you all chivalrous?” Sky teased as he placed his hand in Nolan’s. The wonderful man pulled hard, lifting him up so that his tired legs didn’t have to do quite so much.
But it wasn’t enough to just be standing. No, Nolan kept pulling until Sky landed right against his chest and the other arm closed around him.
“I think the star of tonight is you. Not only did you save Maddox from a purple fungus and rescue a damsel in distress, but you also saved a pig.”
What began as a little giggle soon grew out of control. He leaned nearly all of his weight on Nolan as they both laughed themselves silly. Everything about this night had been an utter disaster. No one could have predicted this insanity even if they’d taken into account the full moon.
Yet the only thing that mattered was the laughing man against him with the most wonderful arms.
Holding Nolan by his waist, Sky tipped his head up. “Can I request a do-over?”
Sky’s eyes had adjusted to the darkness enough that he could just make out Nolan’s brow furrowing at his question. “What do you mean?”
“Can this date not count in the two dates I’ve been allotted for my prior rescuing services?”
“No. Not a chance.”
“But—”
Nolan shook his head. “This has easily been the best date of my life. There’s no way in the world I’m ever pretending this wasn’t our first date. It was unpredictable and exciting. I learned so many new things. Met new people. And I got to be with you the entire time. How could I not love this date?”
If Sky could have melted more into this man, he would have. No one would have been able to pry them apart. They would be one big squishy blob of happiness.
“I don’t understand. You said you wanted a quiet, no-magic date.”
Nolan’s fingertips grazed his cheek, sending little goose bumps down his arms. “I said that right after getting free of a vampire who’d turned me into his pet. And that was after sending my brother across the country to escape more vampires. My introduction to this world was all violence, death, and danger. I wasn’t ready to be overwhelmed again.” Nolan’s gentle fingers continued to stroke across Sky’s cheekbone and along his jaw. “Tonight you showed me that there is a fun side to your world. There are exciting new things that I want to experience because I’m not worried about these people trying to kill me.”
Leaning forward, Nolan captured Sky’s mouth in a slow, sweet kiss that he didn’t ever want to end. He handed himself over to Nolan, allowing the man to lick along his lips before sliding inside to stroke Sky’s tongue with his own.
Good God, Nolan could kiss.
His toes were curling in his shoes and his fingers tightened in Nolan’s sweater. He needed closer. And he wasn’t the only one.
Nolan’s other hand came up so that both were now holding his face and tangling in his hair as the kiss went deeper and deeper. The rest of the world fell away, and there was only Nolan’s hard body pressing against his and all these annoying clothes between them.
A wolf howl split the night and they jerked apart at the same time. That was close.
The howl was followed by another and another.
Nolan choked. “Shit. We have an audience.”
Sky groaned and glared into the darkness. Was that a pair of reflected eyes watching him? Probably. “Come on! You couldn’t let me have this?”
A wolf yipped, and Sky swore it sounded more like a laugh. Bastard.
“Spread the word: Red got the pig. Go hunt your deer.”
A couple of wolves cried out. More howls followed, but they all sounded as if they were moving farther away, deeper into the thick woods that filled the twenty acres that Moon owned.
“I guess we should head back and see if your friend needs any help with Damon.”
“Okay, but then we need to continue what we were doing before we were interrupted.” Sky snickered when Nolan had to pick up his phone from where he’d dropped it while they’d been kissing. Thankfully, Nolan had left the flashlight on and the beam was pointing up through the brush.
They walked hand in hand back toward Moon’s house, their shoulders bumping into each other.
“I certainly hope you don’t expect me to try to top this night for our second date,” Sky sniped.
