And don’t get me started on the amount of ear fucking we’ve undertaken the past thirty minutes, or I’ll part the crowd with my crotch instead of my arm. Jess is a provocative dancer, but her phone-sex-worker persona is even sexier than the sultry swings of her hips.

I should have been the odd man out when the bachelorette party moved from the Irish pub to a nightclub three blocks over, but not once have I felt out of place. Jess’s friends are batshit crazy, but their love for Jess is undeniable. They have a close bond like Octavia and me, and the more time I spend with them, the more I realize it would be good for Octavia to have people like them in her life.

She was ten when she outed our grandfather as the monster he is, so she never had the chance to form those life-long friendships most girls commence in their formative years.

Perhaps that’s the part of the equation I’ve been seeking for the past couple of years.

Womanly bits.

Disgust is heard in my tone when I murmur, “I’ll wait for you out here.” Nothing against women. I’ve loved many of their womanly parts during my adult years, but I don’t know how they do it.

Cramps.

Menstruation.

Penetration.

Nuh-uh. They’re not for me.

Jess’s eyes stray to mine when I nudge my head to the women’s restroom. Her friends have been filtering in and out of the bathroom all night, but they haven’t had the lingering gawk of the newspaper perve who followed us from the Finglas to Beats on them all night.

Jess is the only one being creeped out by the creeper.

I was two seconds from decking him when Jess announced she needed to use the bathroom. Rylee offered to accompany her, but as quickly as her offer was voiced, Jess assured her she didn’t need two bodyguards.

Supposedly, I’m more than enough.

Considering how peeved she looked while glaring at me during her above statement, I’m shocked she’s been super touchy-feely during our trek to the bathroom. I can hardly hear her over the thump of music, but her sneaky touches and flirty smiles have kept my dick in a constant state of erection.

It appears as if I am not the only one noticing the tension. In a quick yank, tug, and pull maneuver, Jess drags me into the accessible bathroom next to the women’s restroom that’s overflowing with patrons.

“What the fuck,” I murmur under my breath when her hand moves from my now crinkled shirt to the back of my skull.

My shock switches to need when she yanks my head forward, drags her tongue along the seam of my lips, then breathes over my mouth. “I swear, if we don’t do something to lessen the tension burning between us, this place will go up in flames before the night is over.”

When her tongue lashes mine for the second time, I try to get my mouth to either spit out that we need to take this somewhere else or return the teasing movements of her delicious-tasting mouth, but no matter how loud the needs of my body shout over the panicked wails screaming in my head, I remain motionless a foot into the bathroom, unmoving and unspeaking.

“Oh shit,” Jess murmurs a second later, her words almost drowned out by the club beats booming out of the speakers a few feet away. “I thought… I… uh… I thought you wanted this?” As her glistening eyes bounce between mine, the panic flaring through my body leaps onto her breathtaking face. “I don’t know what the hell I was thinking. I’m so sorry for reading the signals wrong, Caleb. I just… I…”

The smell that makes me want to vomit at all times of the day and night isn’t responsible for the sweat slicking my skin when Jess darts for the door. It is her fleeing from me instead of veering for me as she has multiple times tonight.

Several partygoers tried to get between us tonight, but within seconds, we found our way back to each other. Then, as the night continued, everyone around us faded into the background.

It was just a mixed-race beauty and me, dancing like nothing else in the world mattered but aligning our bodies as closely as possible.

I didn’t think about him.

I didn’t think about the mess waiting for me at home.

I didn’t think about anything, and for once, the silence was a gift instead of a penance.

With that in mind and against the screaming protests of my head, I beat Jess to the door. A squeak pops from her mouth when I slam my palm against the close-door button before crowding her against the frosted glass, hiding my sweaty brows from the world outside.

My raging heart pulverizes her ribs when I meld my front to her back, but she doesn’t speak a word, leaving the task of mending the massive gap I placed between us on my shoulders.
