CHAPTER 9

OCTAVIA

I’m not usually a person who wakes up smiling, especially when it is Sunday and my body is aching, but today is different. My muscles aren’t screaming because they were exhausted from running miles at Ravenna Park. They’re sexually depleted and stupidly craving for a second round.

Last night was wild.

Actually, scrap that.

Yesterday as a whole was the equivalent of a dream.

Jack is a little hard for me to read—you don’t need more proof of that than me stupidly believing he was a virgin even after he rocked my core to the next galaxy—but if you look past his sheltered eyes and somewhat concealed personality, we gel together like peanut butter and jelly.

He fucks, and he fucks well, yet he is still an attentive and nurturing lover. He made sure my needs were met long before his, and even when he exhausted them to the point of me passing out, he didn’t become selfish.

I had barely finished swallowing the thick streams of cum pumping out of his cock when he returned the favor on the bathroom sink. Until the wee hours of this morning, we tested out almost every solid piece of furniture in my apartment, but instead of being grossed out like I was when Caleb did the same thing, I’m grinning like a loon.

You won’t believe how good it feels to have years of sexual frustrations taken care of in one night. I feel like I could float to the bathroom. That’s how lightweight I feel, and the airiness doubles when my stretch ends with my hand landing on the curves of a scrumptious ass.

Jack didn’t sneak out while I was sleeping. His leg is peeking out the side of my sheets, and although his back is covered by the long sleeve olive shirt he purchased at the thrift store yesterday, the two dimples in his lower back are exposed along with a tiny portion of his glorious brief-covered backside.

If my bladder weren’t screaming at me, I’d see if Jack was planning to hold true to his promise of this being more than a one-night affair, but since it won’t hold for another marathon romp, I slip out of the bed and pad toward the closed door.

Caleb must have come home at some stage last night because he’s the only one who closes my door.

I discover that to be the case a second after I flush the toilet. His shoulder is propped against the doorframe of his room, and his bare feet are crossed in front of him. After drinking in my flushed cheeks, wide eyes, and mussed hair, he angles his head to the side and cocks a mousy brown brow. “I thought the bathroom was a no-go?”

“It is,” I answer while pushing off my feet.

“Then why did it reek of raunchy sex this morning?”

I take a moment to ponder. I don’t keep anything from Caleb, so that’s not the cause of my delay. It is the fact he’s admitting he didn’t come home until this morning that has me needing a moment.

“You first,” he gabbers out when he spots the inquisitiveness brewing in my eyes. “From what Jess told me last night, you had some pompous event to attend with stiffs in suits yesterday, yet here you are, looking like you hit the jackpot only hours later.”

I can’t hide my smile, so I set it free. “I did have a pompous event to attend… but not everyone there was a stiff in a suit.”

“It wasn’t Roach from advertising, was it?”

I gag. “No. He’s called Roach for a reason.” I poke him in the midsection with my index finger. “And when have your dates with Jess been an overnight affair? You usually have her tucked in bed by ten o’clock.”

My hope that they’ve sorted their shit out sails into abyss when Caleb’s back molars grind together. “Don’t even go there, Tivy. That’s not a conversation we’re going to have this week much less after realizing there’s a partially naked man in your room.”

My eyes rocket in the direction he’s looking so fast I make myself dizzy. More than a tiny portion of Jack’s backside is now peeking out of the sheets, and it sets my pulse racing.

Caleb chuckles under his breath when he spots my bug-eyed expression before he saunters back to his bed for a little more shut-eye. “Keep your theatrics out of the bathroom. Every other piece of furniture is up for negotiation, but not the one place we’re meant to get clean of controversy.”

“If it helps you sleep any better, we didn’t have sex in there,” I murmur, my voice only just loud enough for him to hear.

“Not helping me have a restful slumber, Tivy.”

I smile so brightly, the sun beaming through the curtains in Caleb’s room bounces off my teeth when I close his door and enter the one across from it. I grimace more than I smile when my entrance to my room reminds me of how messy it is. I got in somewhat of a tizzy when I realized I didn’t have anything suitable to wear to yesterday’s event. My work clothes aren’t appropriate for private parties, and the dresses and shoes I usually wear out clubbing seemed a little too risqué.
