“Aidan!” Autumn cries, shaking under my grip. “I…oh…God.”

I circle her clit with the tip of my tongue, loving the way she writhes under the attention. Jesus, I could kneel here in the sticks and stones all day, feeling nothing but adoration and desire as I drink in her taste. My brain is on a loop and has been since the second I lay eyes on her: Autumn, Autumn, Autumn…

A broken moan leaves her parted lips, her back arching off the tree, and I grip her tighter to keep her from falling over the way she’s falling apart. I’ve literally never seen a better sight than Autumn as she orgasms. I want to decorate my entire place with photos of her like this—so perfect, so full of pleasure, so mine.

I groan, so fucking hard I might come in my pants just from the taste of her pleasure coating my tongue and the image of her blissed out against the tree.

Autumn’s panting and limp as I set her down. I grin at her, full of satisfaction.

Until a twig breaks behind me and shatters the serene bliss surrounding us.

In an instant, I’m on my feet, spinning around and shoving Autumn behind me to protect her. My heart is pounding now for an entirely different reason, adrenaline soaring through me, bracing for a fight that doesn’t come.

Whoever was there seconds ago is now nothing more than a blur of movement, running in the opposite direction, speeding away from us. I wait until they’re out of sight before turning back to Autumn and pulling her into my arms.

“Probably just gave a lost hiker the show of his life,” Autumn jokes, but there’s a hint of nerves still in her laughter.

I growl a little. “As much as you deserve to be shown off, I’m a selfish man when it comes to you, sweetheart. Nobody is worthy of seeing you in all your glory like that, so fucking radiant.”

She buries her head in my chest, and I realize that when my back was turned to her, she’d adjusted her clothing so she was once again fully covered. Probably a good thing considering we’d just been caught, but I can’t help but be a little mad at the fact her naked body is hidden from me again.

“Do you think they really saw?” She pulls away, hopping a little as she adjusts her socks and boots.

I shrug. “If they did, my body was hiding anything that wasn’t covered by clothes.”

Autumn’s brows are pulled together, and she’s tugging at her clothes, shuffling a little on her feet. Something’s wrong.

“What’s wrong, sweetheart?” I need to know so I can make it better.

“I just…I guess this isn’t the first time I’ve felt like someone was…watching me?” She stumbles a little over the words, her worried expression deepening.

“What?” I manage to keep the murderous intent in my voice leashed even though I’m desperate to hunt down anyone who so much as glances at her and make sure they can never look at anyone ever again.

“I thought I was being silly.” Autumn blows out a breath. “But then…” She waves her hand in the direction our unexpected company had run off in, and the rest of her sentence is clear. But then that happened.

I open my arms, and she lets me hold her again. I press a kiss to the top of her head, wanting to wrap her up in my hold like this forever.

“Don’t worry, sweetheart,” I say softly against her soft hair. “Nothing will hurt you. I’m here. I’ll keep you safe no matter what.”

It’s more than just a promise. It’s a damn vow.

AUTUMN

Come Monday morning, there’s an ache in my body that’s only half to blame on the hike.

I’m surprised I even managed to make the walk to work given the way Aidan made it his mission to ruin me in the best way possible before we had to say goodbye last night. Yawning and wishing I made the stop for coffee on the way in, I flop down in my desk chair behind reception and start getting ready for the work day. I would much rather be in bed, or better yet in Aidan’s bed, but here we are.. Besides, his shift patterns are way more intense than my normal nine-to-five, so I can’t complain.

“Autumn!”

I look up at the excited female voice, finding Janey leaning over my desk. A hundred questions are brimming in her eyes and I grin, knowing I’m about to get grilled about my firefighter and more than happy to take the opportunity to brag about how I’ve somehow found the world’s most incredible man ever.

“I have three minutes before I need to be at my desk,” Janey says in a rush, “so spill and fast!”

Even if I talk at an inhuman speed, there’s no way I can tell Janey everything in that amount of time. “I’ll meet you for lunch to tell you everything.”
