“The reason I brought this up is because I want our dynamic to look a little different,” he told me. “I can’t stress this enough—I love voyeurism. I love to watch and pick up hints and signals. I want to watch you…play with others.”

All right…

Just weeks ago, I would’ve jumped at the chance, no questions asked, but I had questions now. I had concerns. I had a tiny traditionalist in me who also wanted to have his needs met. And right now, it was a lot of kink going on.

I set my plate on the coffee table and clasped my hands in my lap. “Will we have time to date with all this fucking around with other men?”

His eyebrows flew up. “My uncle’s got attitude. What the hell?” He let out a chuckle, and I blushed like a damn schoolboy. I hadn’t meant for it to come out catty-sounding. “Franklin, I’m in no rush.” He set aside his plate too, before he climbed up on my lap and cupped my face in his hands. “You make me feel brand-new in BDSM. For years, I thought I knew what I wanted, and now…I want more than that. And I wanna explore it all with you.”

I swallowed and felt the pressure on my chest dissipate. “Keep going.”

He smiled and rested his forehead to mine. “I’m gonna take over everything, honey. But we’re gonna give it time. A lot of time—because you just started this journey. It’s way too soon for you to know where you’re gonna be next week.”

That wasn’t as good. What he’d said before was better. “I’m asking for a relationship, and you’re backing away…?”

“Not at all.” He shook his head. “I’m saying this is it for me. And I refuse to rush you. Yeah, I have a metric fuck-ton of fantasies that I wanna live out with you, but I have the rest of my life to do so.”

The rest of his life. Liquid heat flowed through me, loosening all the knots, and we were back to keep going. He was saying all the right things again.

Did he really mean that? That this was it for him? Did I dare ask?

A statement like that was usually followed by a declaration of love, wasn’t it?

Nerves fluttered around within me at the thought, and I was nowhere near ready for such a discussion. But that didn’t mean I wasn’t seeing where this was headed. Which didn’t scare me. If anything, I longed for that day.

“I want that future to come true,” I admitted. “And because of that, I need boundaries for our immediate future. I need to know when I can see you again. I need to know how I can please you while you’re in New York.”

His eyes positively glowed with affection. “This is what I’m talking about, baby. Do you feel how you’re more submissive with me? Not just between the sheets.”

I did. I felt it.

I wanted to serve him in some way that wasn’t only related to sex.

I should talk to Tate about it.

“I like the idea of being a good Daddy for you,” I said quietly. Admitting it to myself and to him. I’d thought along those lines before, and now I knew they ran deeper. I wanted to figure out just how deep my submission went.

“You already are,” he murmured. “We’ll come up with a good structure that suits us both.”

I nodded and exhaled.

“As for the rest—” He slid off my lap and extended a hand to me. “I wanna show you something.”

I stood up and followed him…to the window, of all places.

“See the red building next to the blue one across the street?” He pointed to a four-story building similar to the one I lived in.

“Yes?”

He nodded once and folded his arms over his chest. “I’m closing on the one-bedroom on the first floor on Monday. The last bidder pulled out this morning.”

Holy—

Was he serious?

Shock tore through me, and I just stood there dumbfounded.

“I’m interviewing replacements for my position as soon as I get back to New York,” he went on. “Then I’m putting my place there on the market. I suspect it will sell in two minutes.” He paused and glanced up at me. “I don’t know—maybe I have a month or two before I’m completely done in New York, but I’ll be right here every weekend until that place across the street becomes my new home.”

An unfamiliar emotion surged within me, overwhelming me in a heartbeat, causing my chest to seize up, my breathing to stutter, and my brain to battle between complete shutdown and chaos. Then a voice in the back of my mind screamed, It’s real. This was real. Jack was coming home, and he would be living right across the street.

I pulled him in for a hug and squeezed him so tightly that I probably made breathing difficult for him.
