His response nearly levels me. “W-what do you mean that’s not going to happen? What is this? Some kind of kidnapping!?”

“No, Billie, this is a rescue.” The car’s engine is roaring now as we speed away from the gallery. I can’t even believe how well Gage maneuvers us through the streets. “Those men back there were sent to kill you. And I’m here to make sure they don’t succeed.”

Gage

This is the first time in my life I’ve driven with a treasure beside me.

That’s what Billie is. A treasure. My treasure.

I’m putting everything on the line for this girl. Everything I’ve known as a man. But there’s no way I can do anything else. My head’s spinning with desire, and my heart is pumping so hard it’s about to bust through my ribcage. I wish I could have met her any other way, or had a real date planned for this afternoon, but because of the evil world I come from, we’ve had to meet like this.

Despite the adrenaline flowing through me, I’m still hard as hell and desperate to strip her naked and taste just how unbelievably sweet she must be. But will she ever accept me? Will I be able to make her understand after something like this?

Even if she doesn’t let me in, even if I have to keep my distance from her for the rest of my life, I’ll still do whatever it takes to keep her safe. Without Billie, the world would instantly become a darker place.

“You’re a liar,” Billie says, her voice so matter-of-fact, as if she was giving a school presentation. “You said you were taking me on a date. That was a lie.”

“Billie—”

“Now you tell me those two men were assassins sent to kill me and I’m supposed to believe you?” She laughs in disbelief. “What reason would assassins have to kill me, Gage?”

She makes a good point. From her point of view, I can totally understand why she would feel this way.

“Now is not the time to get into the details,” I tell her. “Once we get back to my apartment, I’ll explain everything.”

“You mean once we get back to your dungeon where you tie me up and torture me?” she counters. “No thanks, Mr. Psychopathic Kidnapper.”

Billie snatches the door handle and shoves her door open, ready to hurl herself from a moving car. I move like the Flash, snatching her hand and tugging her back into the car before she can make one of the dumbest mistakes of her life.

“Goddamn it, Billie!” I growl through my teeth as I buckle her in and clamp a hand around her thigh. So soft. So silky. “I’m trying to protect you!”

“Yeah, right. That’s what you’ll say right up until you’re putting me in an ice bath to harvest my organs.”

I burst out laughing. “Harvest your organs! Girl, you should be a standup comedian.”

“It’s not funny! I’m serious!”

I take Billie’s hand and place it on my cock so she can feel the bulge threatening to tear through my pants at this very moment. “Do you feel that, Billie?”

She blinks hard, trying to hide her look of astonishment.

“Feel what?”

“Don’t play dumb with me.” I force her to squeeze—squeeze until it hurts me. “I know you’re innocent. You may never have felt a cock before, but you know what you’ve got your hand on now.”

“I…you’re hard.”

“That’s right, Billie. Now if I’m hard for you, do you really think I’m taking you home to harvest your organs?”

She’s looking at me now. Really looking at me. There’s still fear in her eyes, but at least now I’m pretty confident she won’t be trying to hurl herself out of the moving car just to try and get away from me.

“Smooth talker,” she finally says.

I laugh. “I’ve been accused of many things in my life, sweet thing. But being a smooth talker is not one of them.”

I release her my grip on her, and she pulls her hand away quickly. But I’m no dummy. I see the blush on her cheeks. It’s there just like it was there back at the gallery when we were first talking. There’s something there. She has to know deep down that I’m not here to hurt her. Doesn’t she?

She keeps quiet until we get back to my place, but as soon as I park, she tries to run. Of course I expected this, and I catch her before she can make it five yards. I clasp my hand over her mouth and carry her inside. Her screaming and wriggling is nothing compared to my strength. I don’t even know why she’s bothering at this point, but Christ if it isn’t turning me on.

She has so much fire inside. So much vigor, and by the time I lock the door and set her down on the couch, I’m two seconds away from ripping her clothing to shreds so it’s impossible for her to leave.
