“Fuck yeah, I do. We’ve got three spare rooms in this house to fill. Two kids to a room, we could carry on the family name and tradition with six little Birdies and Lanes running around.”

“Six kids? Are you crazy? They’re going to come from my body. My vagina is going to be wrecked. I’ll need to do an obscene number of Kegels. Maybe have some kind of surgery to get back to normal. Nope, we’re not having six.” My hand slides up her back, fingers tangling in the loose chocolate-brown tendrils.

“No other male looks at my woman. You better find a female doctor, Birdie. I don’t care if they’re getting paid to do what they need to do. No men look at what’s mine, ever.” She laughs. This woman thinks I’m joking. I’ll be damned. She doesn’t realize how serious I am. Juniper can do everything a doctor can do, and at least I know she won’t be thinking about my woman in a way I’ll have to beat her ass.

“You’re being ridiculous, and we’re not having six children. You promise me that you won’t go over-the-top alpha on whoever my doctor ends up being, and we can compromise on three, with room to talk about a fourth down the road.” I’m not really looking for a voice of reason at this juncture of our conversation, yet that’s what I’m going to have to take.

“Fine, fine. I’ll make sure your doctor is a female anyway,” I grouse.

“Thank you, and I’ll see what I can work out. I’m not even pregnant. This may take time, so this doctor talk is a little too premature, you know?” There’s a playfulness to her tone that’s going to get her fucked.

“Shirt off. I don’t want anything between us.” She sits up, and while the room is dark, the moon is shining through the curtains enough for me to watch as she starts to take off another one of my younger rodeo days shirts. “You need help, or are you okay?” I ask.

“I’m good. The bath helped a lot. The medicine, too. The dinner you cooked was the icing on top.” Birdie is talking about an easy dinner I cooked. It didn’t take much to put together—hamburger patties, cutting up potatoes to fry up for french fries, and a small salad rounded it out. As far as dessert, the leftover brownies were dwindling down, but somehow, there was ice cream in the freezer. Birdie had no problem heating up the brownies we did have left in the microwave, plopped some ice cream on top, and handed me a bowl before she tucked into her own.

“You gonna get cold?” My hand leaves her hair, sliding around to the front of her body, making sure not to press on her sternum too much.

“Not as long as you’re next to me.” The palm of my hand cups her breast, my thumb rasping over her pebbled tip.

“You know I’m not going anywhere. Are you going to breastfeed our babies, Birdie?”

“I want to.” Her body trembles.

“You gonna let me watch?” I lick my lips, thinking about her nursing our children.

“Of course.”

“Good. I’m going to cherish every moment of it. Lie back down before I take this further. I’ll be damned if you’re too sore to take me in the morning.” My cock is rock fucking solid, and I know Birdie is worked up, too.

“Lane.” Her voice trembles as she lies back down, this time closer to me than before.

“Not giving us what we both want, even though it’s killing me.” I nudge her lips with mine, my tongue sliding out until she opens for me. The kiss is filled with need, pent-up desire, and pulling back is damn near impossible. Except Rocky takes that moment to stand up, do a little spin, and then settle back down. “Your dog is a boner killer, baby.”

“He is not.”

“Birdie, tomorrow night, he’s in the dog bed. I’m not going to be taking you in the middle of the night, and Rocky chooses that moment to get excited and interrupt our time.” The last thing I want is to be taking Birdie from behind when Rocky gets a wild hair up his ass. Nope, not even going there.

“Fine, he’ll go in the dog bed tomorrow night. Love you, Lane, forever,” she says quietly.

“Love you, too, Birdie, always.”

BIRDIE

“Rocky, come on, boy.” I clap my hand on my thigh, trying to get his attention. He’s fully embracing his life on a ranch. He’s also learning to sleep on his dog bed at night, at least when Lane is home. I’ve yet to tell him Rocky gets on our bed every morning when he leaves to start his day. By the time Lane is back for breakfast, we’re out of bed and he is none the wiser. “You’re going to get swiped at little, buddy. The barn cats aren’t to be messed with. I’d hate to have to take you to see Auntie Tully this early in the morning.” My dog has a mind of his own. The little dude is only twenty pounds, but he’s full of obstinance and thinks he’s Billy Badass.
