“It’s good to see you, Cormac.” She turned and smiled widely at Nina.
“And you must be Nina!”
Nina shot me a worried look, but I just shook my head and smiled. “Jackie and Stone aren’t the type to ask questions,” I said quietly, resting my hand at the small of her back. “You can tell ‘em you’re the heiress to the throne of England ready to usurp the royal family and bring about the end of democracy in the UK and they wouldn’t blink.”
Stone grinned. “Trust me, we’re in the business of not getting into other people’s shit up here.”

His eyes dragged back to mine, brow arching just enough to let me know he had questions, but he didn’t push it.

“Fuck that,” Stone chuckled. “All the offense. Just like his cooking is offensive to anyone within four miles.”
Nina cracked up as I glowered, shaking my head.
“You fuck up one goddamn hamburger…”
Nina hooted, pulling close to me and leaning into me as my arm went around her shoulder. We both froze, instantly catching ourselves and started to pull away before Jackie rolled her eyes.
“How about we spend lunch not pretending we don’t see how adorable you two are, and we’ll all have a much better time. Okay?”
My jaw ground, and Stone laughed, clapping me on the shoulder.
“Dude, it’s Blackthorn. No one gives a fuck about who you love up here.”
He and Jackie were still grinning at us when Ryker and Addison came over. Introductions all around, Ryker and Stone pulled me away to man the grill with them—or as they put it, to “watch and learn.” “From a distance,” Stone grinned. “You know, so you don’t hurt any innocent burgers.”

Addison and Jackie took to Nina instantly, pulling her away to get her some fresh clothes. After all, she was still wearing her clubbing outfit from the other night.
Kyrie and Brooke joined us, the food was laid out on the big wooden table out in the yard, and we ate—laugher, smiles, and love all around.

Nina beamed, a glow radiating on her face as I started the engine.
“That was amazing,” she finished breathlessly. “This whole, everyone here…”
“It’s pretty special, isn’t it?”
She nodded. “Yeah,” she said quietly. “Yeah, it is. They were all so nice and genuine.”
“A lot of the folks up here are, actually. You should meet some of the other families too.”
“I’d love that.”
She turned, smiling widely at me as she took my hand.
“I can see why you like it up here.”
I chuckled as I let the engine idle, turning to grin at her teasingly. “I know it’s pretty far away from the clubs and—”
“Good,” Nina groaned, shaking her head. “You know that’s not my scene, right?”
“I didn’t picture it was.”
“Well, it’s not.” Her hand squeezed mine, lingering, heat teasing between us. She leaned over, resting her head on my shoulder as her other hand gripped my bicep.
“This place is amazing,” she breathed quietly. “I don’t want to leave.”
I knew she’d have to at some point. We both would. After all, this was supposed to be a temporary thing, hiding out here. But for now, no way. For now, I’d keep her here, and shut us away from the world, for along as we could.
Nina turned, the dashboard lights sending a glow across her pretty face and her soft lips as she angled her head up look into my eyes. She breathed out as she leaned in and kissed my shoulder.
