He’s more than annoyed when his luck runs out, making twenty-three instead of twenty-one to win.

A guy like this, even when he thinks he’s already robbed me, isn’t gonna hesitate to try and squeeze just a little more juice, though.

But not this time.

Not ever again.

“I think now’s a good time to cash in and leave the casino, Mr. Silverthorne,” Levenson growls, giving the dealer a dark look as he slides all the chips over.

But I’m one step ahead of him there.

And even though I don’t quite understand how I just won, I’m not gonna stick around and argue if he wants us to leave, right after he pays me.

“You can cash in your chips at the cashier on the way out. They can cover the amount,” he drawls, but I’m not so sure it will be that easy.

“I’d prefer cash, right here,” I announce, almost insisting on it before we go anywhere.

Levenson laughs a scoffing, scornful sound.

“You won’t even trust me to pay you now? C’mon, Ethan…I’ll even walk you down there myself,” he says, shaking his head before he checks his watch for the tenth time.

“Well…alright then,” I sigh, heaping the plastic chips up, stacking them neatly again, and starting to pile them into my pockets.

“We can give you a bag,” the dealer offers, but I think I’m good.

I load up Krissy’s clutch purse too, and with clanking pockets in my jacket, I grip her by the arm and move as fast as I can without looking too obvious to get us out of here.

“What the hell’s going on, Ethan?” Krissy whispers urgently. “And how much money is this?”

Catching a glimpse of us in the mirrored room, I smile to myself. And seeing Saul Levenson for the last time as he leaves a private exit, I know that everything’s going to be just fine.

“It’s four million dollars, Krissy. And it’s all yours…Ours. Yours,” I tell her once we’re in the lift.

“Krissy. Krissy…?”

I catch her in a dead faint. The chips she’s holding scatter onto the elevator floor.

Maybe she’s right. Maybe she’s just not good with money, even the plastic kind.

CHAPTER NINETEEN

Krissy

“Oh my god, Ethan! I can’t believe all that happened right after we left,” I exclaim.

He looks up from the morning paper, acting as if he has no idea what I’m talking about.

“Look!” I tell him again, setting my bowl of cereal down and turning up the news playing on the big screen in the kitchen.

Ethan practically dragged me out of the casino once he’d got his money plus what Levenson had bet against it.

Turns out that minutes after we actually left the building with our things, the whole casino was raided.

Cops, IRS, Justice Department. The whole bit

The owner, Saul Levenson, still wanted for fraud and a million other things, must’ve left the building about the same time we did.

I hope Denise and the others still have a job, though.

“I thought your accountant was trying to rob you?” I ask Ethan. Wanting the whole story, but he only shrugs. Asking if there was still more coffee in the pot.

“Ethan!” I grumble, getting up and going over to him, batting at his paper, and finally settling myself on his lap. Begging him to tell me what happened.

He tosses the paper over his shoulder, and tickling my naked ribs through a Japanese robe I’ve borrowed, he gnaws at my neck, making me squeal.

“What happened?” he asks. “The bad guys got caught, and you made four million dollars. Not bad for a day’s work, huh?” he asks, and I feel my smile disappearing again.

The money.

So much money.

“Is it really safe to have that much cash in the house?” I ask.

I’m still in a daze over the whole thing. Ethan literally had to carry me and all our things out of the casino last night, along with the money.

I fainted when he told me how much it was, and now I see why he was so eager to leave.

Taking what was rightfully his before the casino got raided.

And I guess him claiming what’s his includes claiming me too.

And that’s something else I’m still in a daze over.

But I wish Ethan would stop teasing me by saying it’s my money.

He owns it, fair and square. I watched him do it all by himself.

“Estate, Krissy. It’s an estate,” he corrects me, poking out his tongue. Probably waiting twenty years to be able to correct someone calling his estate a ‘house.’

It’s way more than just a house.

“And yeah. A briefcase full of money is pretty safe inside the safe. We’ll deposit it when we set up your accounts at the bank. Tomorrow if ya like?” he says casually.

He makes sure he lets me know his hands aren’t going anyplace anytime soon, either.

I shiver a breath as he starts to knead my breasts. My eyes close automatically as a smile plays on my lips.
