He would be right to ask. What have I done?

We turn onto another gravel road, and the only thing you can see are the lights outside the house and a few strobe lights inside.

“A house party? You wanted to bring me to a house party?” he asks as he pulls up next to the other parked cars.

“It’s not really a house party. It’s more like an event… for couples.” I swallow and mess with my palms.

“What does that mean?” I know I need to get us inside, or he won’t let us leave this car. I open the door, and he just misses me when he reaches to pull me back in. I hurry to the door the best I can without falling and busting my ass in these shoes. I knock, and by then, Theo is on me.

He grabs my elbow, spinning me around. “Hanna? What the fuck have you done?”

I shake my head and give him only a few simple words as I cup his face, whispering, “I’m saving our marriage.”

And with that, the door swings open, and the coordinator of the event smiles at us. She is tall, slender, and has bright blue eyes. I expected her to be dressed in a costume, but she’s not. Instead, she’s dressed in business attire. Or maybe that is her costume—dressed up like a businesswoman. Or is this her dressed for her job, since she’s the one who owns and runs these events?

“Theo and Hanna Fitzgerald?” she asks, her face welcoming. Somehow, it manages to settle me just a bit.

“Yes. That’s us.”

“What the hell is this?” Theo bites out behind me, gesturing to our host, Clarice. I didn’t think she would let me in on such short notice, but she knows Brenda, and I paid a tad more to have her cancel her other reserved couple for us instead.

“Oh, is this a roleplay type of thing? I didn’t see that in your correspondence,” Clarice asks, tucking one side of her straight, jet-black hair behind her ear.

“No, it’s not. You see….” I pause, and my teeth catch the corner of my lip as I turn to Theo. He looks murderous. I debate backing out of this and running to the car with my tail between my legs, but I don’t. I must see this through. I’m not the only one who needs a reset on our sex life. Theo needs to be rocked to his core and remember what he’s capable of. “Theo, this is what I want. This is what we need. Clarice, can you start?”

Theo’s eyes dance back and forth between Clarice and me, and he grows leery of what might transpire.

“I sure can. Right this way.” She moves aside, and her arms gesture to the foyer. The music can be heard on the other side of the closed door in front of us, and I take a gulp so loud it drowns out the music for a second. Strobe lights can be seen in the small space between the door and the hardwood floor.

The house is beautiful. It's two stories and looks brand-new. The outside wasn’t decorated for Halloween, but the inside is the opposite. Fake cobwebs wrap around the banisters lining the stairs. Lights are perfectly placed along the lines of the ceiling and the doorways in hues of green, purple, and orange. There is a fog machine somewhere that is silent. I always assumed they would be loud, but whichever kind they have is nearly undetectable. There are bats, spiders, and ghosts hanging from the ceiling, and you’d think this is a normal Halloween party, but little does Theo know there is something much more lustful lingering in the air and hiding behind each door.

“Hanna, we’ll have you wait here as we prepare for the first room of the night.” Clarice moves toward Theo and takes his arm.

“Hanna!” he barks as she begins to lead him away.

“Trust me, please.”

He goes silent, his jaw tightening under the paint, and I can feel his hand spanking me hard. It feels so real, but it's not. At least not yet.

He watches me until he’s out of sight, Clarice taking him through the door of the first room, and then I’m left alone. The unease comes back, and I fidget with my fingers while I wait for her to come back.

Have I made the worst mistake one can make? I should stop this. I need to. God, what was I thinking?

I start to move to the door, and the second my hand touches the knob, it opens, and I’m reacquainted with Clarice. I barely see over her shoulder, but what I spot there has my jaw dropping, and I can’t believe I’m admitting this, but I feel my core slicken with desire.

Shit. We’re really about to do this.

She closes the door and smiles at me.
