Oh Daddy Jack—where are you? Why did you leave me alone to be judged by these horrible people? Will I ever see you again or am I going to die here tonight?

“What were they doing, Packmaster?” someone shouted.

“Well, I hate to say it but I feel like I should, since the death penalty is on the table,” Packmaster Saunders said.

My head jerked up. The death penalty?

“Say it—tell us!” someone else in the crowd shouted.

“Well…” The Packmaster cleared his throat. “We caught this Wayward Bitch with her Blood-guardian’s cock deep inside her pussy. He was just about to knot her before we broke in and took them apart.”

More boos and hisses and cries of disgust. Someone shouted,

“Incestuous whore!”

Another stone whistled through the air, hitting my thigh this time and causing me to stagger and almost fall. The Packmaster grabbed me by the arm at the last minute and jerked me upright again.

“All right now—I know you want to stone her!” he shouted. “And death is what she deserves, but first we have to take a vote.”

“Before you take a vote, you haven’t even heard all the evidence yet!” someone shouted.

My heart leapt in my chest. Could it be that there was someone here to defend me? Someone to present evidence that I wasn’t at fault?

Then my heart sank again when I saw who was talking—Drake Wilkes and Billy Masters were making their way through the crowd, up to the rock. Drake Wilkes was limping some and I supposed he hadn’t completely healed from where Jack had shot him.

Good! I thought fiercely—I hoped he never healed! I hoped he was crippled for life!

Unfortunately, his life was likely going to be much longer than my own.

“Oh right—sorry, boys.” Packmaster Saunders nodded at them. “Go on—have your say. You wanted to present some evidence?”

“Yes!” Drake Wilkes turned to face the crowd. “Last night during the Open Breeding, this little whore led me and Billy into a trap!”

“Yeah!” Billy Masters exclaimed. “We were going to breed her—as was our right as Alphas—but she fooled us and led us straight to her Blood Guardian.”

“He was waiting for us with a shotgun loaded with silver shot!” Drake Wilkes went on. “He got me in the haunch and now look—I’m still lame!”

More boos and hisses and angry shouts from the crowd.

“You’re lame because you were going to take me in your fur form—as a wolf!” I shouted at him. I might as well speak up for myself, I reasoned—no one else was going to.

“Liar! This little bitch is a liar!” Billy Masters shouted at once. “Drake and me were just gonna breed her regular-like!”

“Then why did he change into his wolf form?” I demanded. “You’re the liar! My Daddy—I mean, Jack—shot Drake Wilkes because you two were planning to do all kinds of horrible things to me.” I turned to the Packmaster. “Isn’t one of the Unbreakable Laws no breeding in fur form? I heard you say it last night! If that’s true, then why aren’t Drake Wilkes and Billy Masters up here on trial too? I heard Drake Wilkes say that he bred Tara Kently in his fur form last month!”

There were gasps from the crowd and I saw Tara Kently cover her face with her hands. I was sorry if I’d hurt her, but the truth had to be told—I wasn’t the only one guilty of breaking their stupid rules!

But my words did not have the desired effect.

“Shut your whoring mouth!” Drake Wilkes shouted at me. “Packmaster, she’s lying! Are you going to let this Wayward Bitch stand there and lie about me to the whole Pack?”

“Definitely not!” Packmaster Saunders slapped me hard, across the face. “No more lies, girl!” he growled.

I gasped and put my bound hands to my face. My head was ringing and my cheek was stinging. But I wasn’t ready to give up.

“I’m not lying!” I shouted—or I wanted to shout—it came out in a whisper and there were tears in my eyes. Tears I couldn’t seem to blink back, no matter how hard I tried.

“Nobody wants to hear your filthy words!” the Packmaster informed me. “Boys—don’t we have any duct tape?” he demanded.

“Sure do, Boss!” one of them said.

There was a ripping sound and then a piece of black duct tape was pressed firmly over my mouth. I gasped and tried to struggle, but there was no getting away when one man was holding my head while the other one taped my mouth.

Their hands on my bare skin felt like bugs crawling all over me but now I had even bigger trouble. I tried hard to hold back the tears that wanted to fall because they were making my nose stuffed up and since my mouth was taped up, that was my only way to breathe. I sniffed loudly and lifted my chin, glaring down at Drake Wilkes and Billy Masters.
