Mind you, I’ve just replaced it with more drama.

In the form of Adan and Lorelei.

“I can’t wait to go for a swim, will you come with me, Ramona?”

Dammit.

How can you not like Lorelei? She’s so damned sweet it hurts. You can’t hate her, you just can’t.

Besides, it’s not her fault she took Adan’s eye.

I’m just jealous he didn’t look at me.

“I’ll come,” I tell her, hammering the last peg into the ground. “But I can’t guarantee the second something touches my leg that I won’t be out of there. Every man for themselves out there ...”

Lorelei laughs. “Of course, I’m with you there. I’ll see you soon, I’ll go get changed.”

She turns and walks off. I admire the tent and am kind of proud now it’s standing in front of me. It’s all perfectly square and rounding off into a nice dome shape. My bed is comfy, too. I can’t wait to roll it out.

Maybe this camping thing isn’t so bad, after all.

“You’re not so bad, tent,” I say, running my hand over it. “I’m sorry for what I said.”

“Did you just apologize to the tent?” Adan asks me, his mouth twitching.

“Well, if you heard some of the things I called it, you would too.”

“We all heard the things you called it. The islands next to us heard the things you called it.”

I give him a sheepish smile, and then go and get my things from the boat and set myself up. It actually looks quite cozy, but there are no guarantees I won’t shit myself tonight when I’m in there alone and I hear a noise. I wonder if Eve and Riggs would have a problem with me crawling into their tent and sleeping with them?

It’s a very likely scenario.

I go into my tent and get changed into my bikini then lather up with sunscreen and walk out. A few people are already in the water and the two girls that came with us are carrying on, screaming and letting their boobies fly around everywhere. I’m sure there will be plenty of lucky men in this camp tonight.

I’m suddenly launched off the ground and flung over a shoulder. I squeal in complete shock as I realize that Remy as shoulder barged me and is now running toward the water with me over his shoulder. I slap at his back, laughing as I curse him out, telling him that it’s too cold and he can’t just throw me in there.

He doesn’t listen, of course, and in seconds we’re both plunged deep into the cold water. I come up screaming and slap at him a few times, but I can’t stop the laughter from trailing out. He splashes me right in the face and then ducks under the water when I go to return the favor.

“That was horrible,” I laugh when he bobs back up. “I was going to take my time and get in there.”

“You would have piss farted around, dippin’ your toes in, and it would have taken forever.”

“Nobody says piss farted, Remy. What are you, eighty?”

“At heart, sweetheart, at heart.”

I roll my eyes with a grin. “You didn’t put your tent close enough to mine, I’m kind of out there all alone.”

“You can come in my tent if you get scared.”

I roll my eyes again. “Don’t tempt me.”

He winks. “I’ll keep you safe.”

“Ugh, stop it you two,” Eve says, appearing next to us. “The sexual tension is too much.”

“It’s all banter.” I grin. “Remy can’t help how he feels about me.”

Remy grins, and then ducks under the water and swims off.

“Seriously, though,” Eve says, watching him go. “Why wouldn’t you jump on that?”

“Oh, I would. It’s him who won’t.”

She raises her brows. “What do you mean he won’t, is he gay? That’s the only reason I could think of that he wouldn’t be taking what you’re throwing out.”

I laugh. “He’s not gay, but he does respect the hell out of Adan and told me that he’s certain Adan is in love with me and so he doesn’t want to cause any problems by going there.”

She purses her lips. “Do you think Adan is in love with you?”

I shake my head. “No, I don’t.”

She frowns. “Do you think he has feelings for you?”

I study him, sitting on the edge of the ocean because he can’t swim with his hands the way they are. He would risk infection, and that is the last thing he wants now he’s finally rid himself of his bandages. Still, he’s looking at Lorelei swimming. He’s not looking at her with love, or affection particularly, but more curiosity. He’s just kind of staring at her.

His eyes swing to me, and I look away.

“I don’t know,” I say to Eve. “I honestly don’t.”

“I think Remy might be right. There is something there, I’m just confused as to why he won’t do anything about it, especially since he knows you would accept his invitation. I can only assume he’s scared because he’s been nothing but a player for a very long time and if he gives in and gives it all to you, then he is scared he’ll be risking ... I don’t know, who he is? It’s hard to tell.”
