“Oh my God, Tiza,” I say, laughing at her. A movie of the week, really? “Nothing has happened.”

“But you want it to?” she prompts, wriggling her eyebrows at me.

“Yes.” My dreamy reply is not lost on her. She grins before snapping into action.

“We gotta get you out of here,” she says, raising her hand to ask for the check. We’ve barely even ordered our food, but I can’t stay here and watch the man I love on a friggin’ date. I can’t do that to myself.

“I’m sorry. Thank you. I don’t want him to see me,” I say, about to unleash the waterworks. My throat is thick with them. I try to swallow them down, but they won’t go.

“Then he won’t. We’ll wait until they sit.”

“Thank you for your help, but don't think we won't be circling back to Matt,” I say.

“Fine,” she says, laughing. “I just watch a lot of rom-coms.” The waitress brings the check, and Tiza puts some money in the folder. “Okay. They are in the back.” We get up and leave the table.

“Shit, I forgot my purse. Hang on,” I say, turning back to the table. When I do so, he’s standing right there. I take a deep breath and inhale his cologne (the cologne I bought him last Christmas) and something that is all him. We shouldn’t have exchanged gifts, just the two of us. We didn’t plan to; we both just happened to buy something for the other. He got me a cute Kindle cover because mine was ripped. It was thoughtful of him and not nearly as inappropriate as the gift I got him, but that didn’t stop him from wearing the scent every day since then. I turn again and hand my keys to Tiza. “Tiza, go on out to the car. I’ll be out in a minute,”

“If you are sure?” she asks. I nod. “Alright. Dr. Tyler, you have a pleasant evening.” I see that smirk on her face, and I know he does too.

“You as well, Ms. Montgomery,” Chris says. Tiza walks away. “It’s not what it looks like, Sierra,” he says, using his thumbs to wipe my wayward tears away from my face. I lean into his touch. I am bereft when he pulls his hands away.

“What isn’t? Won't your date be wondering where you are?” I ask sadly, but defiantly crossing my arms over my chest.

“I’m not on a date. My sister is in town on her way to Orlando.” Oh, thank God, I think, taking another deep breath.

“Introduce me?” I ask. I’ve seen enough TV to know that I need to be sure he’s not married or something. I try to tell myself that it doesn’t matter if he’s dating someone, but I know it does. It would fucking kill me if he was seeing someone. I love him so much that I’d jump into the Tennessee River and never come back. That’s fucking crazy, even I know that, but it’s true. This really is starting to sound like a fucking movie of the week. My love for him is profound and all-consuming. It’s everything to me. It’s why I get out of bed in the morning. Logically, I know I shouldn’t put so much of myself into this since it could all be in my head, but I’m fervidly devoted to him emotionally. I want him more than my next breath, my next million breaths.

“Uh, sure. Follow me,” he says, and I do. “Genevieve, this is a student of mine, Sierra Snow. Sierra, this is my younger sister Gen.” Ugh, a student of mine? Honestly, though, what can he really say? This is the girl who throws her panties at me and makes my cock hard. Yeah, neither of those things really works.

“Pleasure to meet you, Sierra. Sierra? Where have I heard that name before? Oh my God bro, this is the one right? The one.” She stands up and pulls me into a big hug. “Oh my God, I can’t believe I’m meeting you before our mom does. I finally have something to lord over her.” She talks a mile a minute, and I soak up the hug. I can’t remember the last time I had a hug. I am shocked that he’s talked about me to his family. I move my eyes to him and find him staring at me. I can feel a blush creeping up my cheeks.

“Gen, cool it,” Chris says. She pulls away from me, and I almost whimper. God, I’m so starved for attention. I’ll take it from anywhere.

“It’s fine, really,” I say. Gen appears to be just a few years older than me.

“I’m in town for a few days, we should do something. Did Chris tell you we are from Atlanta?”

“He did,” I say, looking over to him. We have spent long hours talking about ourselves when we should have been discussing school issues. I look at my watch. “I should go. I need to get Tiza back to school, but we should do something. Maybe get a manicure tomorrow, lunch perhaps?”
