“Do you want to go for a walk?” Wolfe asked, making her jump.

She pressed a palm to her chest and spun to face him. “Wolfe, you scared me.”

“You keep staring at the forest. I don’t know if you’re trying to magically make it grow or hoping it would disappear.”

She looked around the yard and saw no one was around, which was odd.

“I want to go for a walk,” she said.

“Fine.”

Amelia cried out as he bent down and picked her up.

“What the hell are you doing?” she asked, panic rushing through her, but Wolfe didn’t let her down.

He walked right into the forest, taking them several feet before lowering her down to the ground.

Wolfe had left her crutch back at the clubhouse, and she glared at him.

“Right, you’re going to have to lean on me.”

“I don’t know what you’re trying to do, but whatever it is, it’s not working.” At least, she hoped it wasn’t working.

She wasn’t going to fall for any more of his antics.

But you rather love his antics.

You rather love Wolfe.

You miss him.

Want him.

She cut all the thoughts off. They weren’t useful anyway.

Annoyance flooded her body as she stared at him. He held his hand out toward her, and she wanted to tell him to fuck off, but she hadn’t gotten the hang of wearing the cast.

She gripped his hand, and with his help, she started to walk through the forest. “This doesn’t mean that I forgive you,” she said.

“I know. I have no right to have your forgiveness. I get that.”

She also didn’t want him to be so … agreeable either. It was on the tip of her tongue to tell him, but instead, she kept those thoughts to herself.

He didn’t need for her to say them.

Don’t think about his hand.

Don’t think about how good it feels to have him touching you.

She missed him.

This love thing, it was a pain in the ass because she wanted to hate him. It would be easier that way. It was why she wanted him to break her leg again, so she would remember the pain, but instead, all she could remember was how hurt he’d been.

Wolfe hadn’t wanted to hurt her.

Damn it. She wasn’t going to give in to him.

“Hold on,” Wolfe said, making her stop.

Amelia waited and then watched as Wolfe whistled.

She frowned, and then she heard it.

Seconds later, she saw Rascal and Buster racing toward her.

Amelia cried out, and Wolfe moved behind her, grabbing her hips as her two dogs charged forward.

She wasn’t able to crouch down, so she had no choice but to bend forward. As she did so, it put her ass directly against his pelvis, and this made her suddenly sit up, a little taken aback by the sudden contact.

Wolfe held on to her hips. He didn’t say a word even as she felt the hard ridge of his cock against her ass.

She pressed kisses to Rascal and Buster. Both of them were bouncing with joy to see her.

“How did you do this?” Amelia asked.

“I asked Val for a hand. You can bring them back to the clubhouse as well. None of the brothers will say anything.”

Amelia stood and turned, but Wolfe wouldn’t let her go far.

“How?”

“I asked them to allow you to have your dogs. You love them. I know you’ve been missing them, and they’re the real reason you’ve been staring at the forest edge for hours at a time. Trying to figure out a way to go to them. Tell me I’m wrong.”

He wasn’t wrong.

Going to Rascal and Buster would be a lot easier than going to him. Her dogs grounded her.

“Thank you.”

“You’re welcome,” he said.

She wouldn’t cave.

“They’re not bad dogs either,” Wolfe said. “Kind of … started to like them, you know, spending time with you.”

Amelia nodded.

Rascal and Buster went to Wolfe and rubbed their bodies up against him. They did like Wolfe.

That was good, but Amelia couldn’t allow herself to fall for him. Not ever again. He wanted to believe the worst in her, and if she forgave him, what kind of woman did that make her?

Wolfe took her hand, and with her dogs, they headed back to the clubhouse.

This time, as they stepped back into the main yard, she saw most of the club was outside. No one said a word about her dogs.

Even as Rascal and Buster growled. They moved by her side, protecting her.

They didn’t growl at Wolfe. They liked him. And damn it, she hated herself because the truth was, she still did love him.

Chapter Fourteen

Amelia was fully healed, which meant she could go home. To her apartment, on the edge of the pack. Far away from all of them. Only close to Val and the bar.

He’d already fixed her apartment so all the abusive words painted on her building were gone. She wouldn’t have to see them again.
