My mind begins to spiral as I think about all the different ways the billionaire might react to this news. He could be angry with me, disappointed at our carelessness, excited by the idea, or dump me without ceremony. A small part of me wonders if he’s ever gotten another woman pregnant, and I immediately regret recalling what I’ve read about his playboy ways. Oh god, what if I’m not the first? My face crumples as I bury my head in my hands.
I’m still sitting at my desk, whirling from my unexpected news, when I hear the familiar sound of Melody’s heels clicking sharply against the floor.
Panicked, I check my face in my purse mirror, glad that I don’t look as horrible as I feel. I plaster on a neutral smile and start typing at my computer, hoping that Melody hasn’t come to talk to me. Unfortunately, my boss stops directly next to my cubicle, her expression sour-looking.
“Hi Melody,” I say a little too brightly. “It’s late. I’m surprised you’re still here!”
But the older woman doesn’t seem to notice my overt perkiness. Instead, she looks pleased, as if she’s preparing to gloat about something.
“Ramona,” her voice is as sibilant as ever. “Did you finish those reworks for the Dissidence project?”
“I did,” I respond without missing a beat. “I left them in the conference room so that you can review them in the morning. I didn’t realize you were still here.”
“Good, I’ll pick them up tomorrow morning then.” Melody tilts her head to a side, studying me for a moment.
I try not to squirm under her gaze, but something is clearly on her mind. “Was there something else?” I ask as politely as I can, wishing she’d go away so I can once again be left to ponder my situation.
“You and Carlton James seem to be getting on quite nicely,” she says in a light tone. It’s not exactly an accusation, but something in Melody’s voice feels threatening. I swallow hard before answering, trying to find a way to avoid sharing too many details. I opt for a small piece of the truth.
“We do seem to get along,” I say with a false smile. “Turns out we actually knew each other when we were just kids. It’s been years since we’d seen each other, so it was a nice surprise to reconnect.” I shrug, trying to play off my relationship with Carlton as nothing more than an easy acquaintanceship.
Maybe that’s what it’s about to become anyway, I think bitterly.
But Melody’s eyes are icy cold. Clearly, she’s displeased to learn this detail. “That’s interesting,” she says softly. “Carlton didn’t mention that when we were having drinks the other night.”
I feel my heart turn to ice. “Drinks? The other night?” I repeat, unable to keep my voice as steady as I’d like it to be. What? When was this?
“Yes, we went out,” she answers, as if reading my mind. “It wasn’t too wild of a night, but we had a good heart-to-heart.” Melody taps her long nails against my cubicle wall, a horrible smile etched across her face. “He’s quite intriguing, isn’t he?”
I stare at my boss, still trying to process what she’s saying. She continues speaking.
“I’m so happy he agreed to meet outside the office,” Melody gushes. “You know, it can be so formal and stuffy here, when everyone is in a planning session together. Meeting at the bar really gave us a chance to relax and get to know each other in a more intimate way.”
All I can do is stare open-mouthed at the woman, my entire body starting to shake with panic over what she’s telling me.
It’s not like anything happened, I try to reassure myself, but it’s no use. Melody’s words are already taking effect.
“You know, Carlton and I will probably go out again because he’s such a catch. I’d be crazy not to try and pursue him, especially since he loves all of the work I’ve put into this project. Plus, did I mention? The man took my panties,” she adds slyly.
I blink several times and realize that I’m in shock.
“What?”
Melody nods, looking like the cat that got into the cream.
“Like I said, it was a very productive meeting. When we parted, he had my panties stuffed in his pocket, and oooh, I wonder what he’s going to do with them? Probably wrap them around his cock and jack off in private is my guess. Who knows? Although, of course I’m more than happy to help him with that if he wants. I believe that man has a secret fetish for women’s panties, come to think of it.”
I feel nauseated, and my stomach turns over on itself. I’m pregnant with Carlton’s baby and here he, masturbating using another woman’s lingerie? How can this be happening? Yet, I know that the CEO adores lingerie because he’s gifted me countless sets at this point, and often crams my damp panties into my mouth during sex too. So yes, this sounds right up the billionaire’s alley.
