Kat tells me about some of the exciting activities they’ve already nailed down for guests to enjoy throughout the exciting week: a helicopter tour of the island, snorkeling, a luau. “And on the second night,” Kat says, “right after the luau, Dax’s band is going to give everyone a private concert in the dance club at the resort.”

“Everyone?” I say with notable snark. “Or, mostly, a certain owner of a certain record label?” Apparently, Dax’s band’s demo ultimately made its way into Reed’s hands, thanks to Josh. But as much as Reed loved what he heard, he said he wanted to watch a live performance by 22 Goats before making a decision on signing them. Last I heard from Kat, Reed’s been traveling a ton since he first heard the demo and still hasn’t gotten around to visiting Seattle.

“You know me so well,” Kat says with a snicker. “I figured, hey, if Reed hasn’t had time to make it to a 22 Goats show, then I’ll bring a 22 Goats show to him.”

“Clever girl.”

“Oh! I forgot to tell you my wedding dress came in. I’m going to a fitting with my mom and Sarah later today.”

“How exciting. I wish so badly I could be there with all of you.” These past two weeks in LA have been wonderful. But not living in the same city as Kat anymore has been the only downside. Well, that and being away from Maddy. But when it comes to my sister, I know she’ll be moving here soon, so the pain of missing her isn’t nearly as acute.

“I wish you could be here, too,” Kat says. “Did your bridesmaid dress come in yet?”

“Yep. I’ve got my fitting in less than an hour, as a matter of fact.”

“Oh, good. Sarah and my mom are both getting fittings today, too.”

“If we trade photos of everyone, it’ll feel like we’re all together.”

“I’ll set up a group chat.”

“Perfect. Give your momma and Sarah big hugs for me. I miss them.”

“I will. Love you, girlie.”

“Love you, too.”

After we say our goodbyes, I finish transferring my cookies onto a rack, and when I’m done, I amble into the living room and take a seat next to Henn on the couch, where he’s still conversing with his new best friend, Ryan Morgan.

Henn says, “Yeah, it looks like it’s going to be an amazing week. But that’s Josh Faraday for you—he doesn’t do parties half-assed.” Aw. How cute that my boyfriend’s been talking to the bride’s brother about the wedding, while I’ve been talking to the bride about the same topic in the next room.

Henn pauses briefly. And then, “Hey, Ryan? Sorry to cut you off, but didn’t you say you left some poor woman with perfect breasts sitting at a table when you called me?”

I make my patented Scooby Doo face again. Excuse me? How’d they go from talking about a romantic wedding to Ryan leaving a woman with perfect breasts sitting at a table? I’ve got whiplash, dudes.

Henn chuckles, but I’m not sure if he’s laughing at my expression or something Ryan has said. “Any time, Captain Ahab,” Henn says. “Oh, and dude? Let the poor girl down easy. I don’t think you realize just how studly you are. You’re kind of the shit, man, hate to break it to you. Try to be kind about letting her down.”

I smirk. No lie detected there. I’ve never seen a more traditionally handsome, charming, charismatic man than Ryan “Captain” Morgan. On top of all that, Kat’s told me he’s been doing quite well for himself as a commercial broker lately, so I’m sure Ryan’s got his pick of “perfect breasted” women wherever he may roam.

After ending the call, Henn plops his phone onto my coffee table and grins at me. “That was Kat’s brother, Ryan.”

“I figured that out. I didn’t realize you’d met him at the Climb & Conquer party.”

“Yeah, in person, but I’d spoken to him on the phone before that. Jonas had told Ryan about how I’d found Sarah for him, and Ryan was hoping I might do the same for him in relation to a flight attendant he’d met in a bar. They didn’t exchange last names or numbers, apparently, but Ryan couldn’t get her off his mind.”

I snort. “Well, it’s no wonder, considering her perfect breasts.”

Henn chuckles. “No, the woman with perfect breasts is Ryan’s dinner date tonight. I can neither confirm nor deny the perfection of the flight attendant’s breasts.”

“So, you found the flight attendant for Ryan, and he realized she wasn’t everything he’d hoped, and now he’s dating a woman with perfect breasts?”

“No, I haven’t been able to find the flight attendant for him yet, unfortunately. The woman with perfect breasts came up because Ryan said he’s on his first date since meeting the flight attendant almost two months ago, and it’s made him realize he doesn’t want anyone else but her.”
