Imagine if he had refused! I cannot even bear to think of it, but I will be forever grateful that she told him to guard me and save me from my misery.
I still wake up from bad dreams of my days with Baslik sometimes—wake up with tears in my eyes and the wrist that he broke throbbing like a rotten tooth as I lie there in the darkness. But Sark is always there to comfort me—he pulls me close and tells me everything will be all right. He reminds me that Baslik is gone and never coming back and that we have a whole new life together now.
As I breathe in his warm, spicy scent and feel his strong arms around me and his broad chest against my cheek, the bad dreams fade and I go back to sleep, curled against his side. He is always there for me—he is a wonderful husband and I know he will be a wonderful father to our boys as well. He—oh, I hear him coming in! I must go to greet him—more later.
Isla put down her pen and the new diary that Sophie had given her as a “housewarming” gift when she and Sark had decided to make the Mother Ship their permanent residence, and ran to the front door. Her husband was just coming through it and he laughed and caught her in his arms, swinging her around before kissing her soundly and setting her gently on her feet.
“Well, and how are you feeling, sweetheart? Everything still all right?”
He placed one big, warm hand on Isla’s lower abdomen, caressing her tenderly.
Isla laughed.
“It’s the exact same as it was this morning when I took the test, Sark!”
“Twins!” He shook his head. “I still can’t believe it. How are we going to handle two of them? Especially if they’re miniatures of me—I was a little hellion, my mother always said so!”
“I’m sure we’ll manage,” Isla assured him, smiling. “And I can’t wait to have two little ‘hellions’ that look just like you running around!” Standing on her tiptoes, she put her arms around her giant husband’s neck, drawing him down so she could look into his eyes.
Sark bent down to her obligingly and gave her a kiss.
“I never wanted children before you—never wanted to be bred,” Isla sent through their mental link. “But you have changed the way I think about everything, Sark. I love you—love you so much.”
“I love you too, sweetheart and you’ve changed my whole life for the better too, he sent, deepening their kiss. “Now what was that you were saying about wanting to be bred?”
“Mmm, I didn’t exactly say that, but I wouldn’t mind a nice, long breeding session with you,” Isla purred through their link. “Though I don’t think you can get me pregnant with a third baby—can you?”
“I don’t know. With me being a Hybrid and you being Moonstone goddess, I guess it’s possible.” Sark kissed her again and then lifted her into his arms, his hands supporting her thighs. “Come on, baby,” he growled in her head. “Let’s go find out.”
And he carried her into the bedroom.
THE END?
OF COURSE NOT!
