I’m circling her nipple with my finger. “You’ll have to figure out how to describe it. Maybe it will help with your book.”

She’s alert after that. “I didn’t do this so I could include it in my book. I don’t want you to think—”

I shake my head. “I was here, baby. I know you didn’t. We let loose and—”

She grips my hand at her breast. “So help me, if you’re about to apologize to me, I will—”

I chuckle. I swear this woman is going to keep me on my toes. “No apologizing.”

She wipes her finger across my lips. “You have me on you.”

“You taste good.”

She scrunches her nose up, and I lean over to kiss her, knowing she can taste herself on my lips. She moans, and I deepen the kiss. Her hand trails down my fully clothed body, and she grips the button of my pants. She pulls her mouth back. “My turn.”

She pushes me to my back and then gets on her knees. “You have too many clothes on, Legend.”

She undoes my jeans, and I’m about to raise my hips up when I hear her phone ringing from the other room. Her head perks up. “That’s Maverick’s ringtone. I have to answer it.”

Guilt hits me fast and hard, but I try to tamp it down. “Stay. I’ll go get it.”

I jump out of the bed, go grab her phone, and click answer as I put it in her hands. She’s still naked, and I sit down on the bed next to her as I try to ignore my hard-on. All I can hear is Maya’s side of the conversation.

“Hey, Mav.”

“I’m good. Yeah, he got here two days ago.”

“Yea, he’s right here, do you want to talk to him?”

“Sure.”

And then she’s handing me the phone. I run my hand through my hair. “Hey, brother.”

There’s static on the other end, but I can make out what he’s saying. “Don’t brother me. You’ve been avoiding me.”

Fuck, of course he’s going to call me out. “Yeah, it’s been an adjustment since I retired. I’m sorry about that. I should have answered your calls. If I’d known about Maya—”

He cuts me off. “It’s fine. At least Cerberus was able to get ahold of you. I wouldn’t trust anyone else to be protecting my sister. Thank you, Legend.”

I barely croak out, “Yeah, sure. I won’t let anyone hurt her. Here. She wants to talk to you.”

I hand the phone to Maya and then get up and lean against the wall. I need to put some distance between her and me because she’s still sitting there completely nude, and I’m having a hard time keeping my hands off her.

She and her brother talk a little more, and then she hangs up. She puts the phone on the nightstand and then holds her hand out to me. “Come here, Legend.”

MAYA

I hold my hand out to him, waiting.

I’m afraid he’s going to deny me. Out of all the times my brother could call, this was the absolute worst. I raise my hand a little higher. I feel so vulnerable sitting here naked, but I refuse to back down. “Legend… please.”

He moves toward me, and my hands go to his waist. I suck in a deep breath and start to undo his button again. He covers my hand with his. “If you touch me, Maya, it won’t end with you sucking me off. We’d make love.”

I try not to react to him saying ‘love.’ He could have said sex or any other thing, but he said love. “Okay.” I nod.

He reaches for my chin, pulling my head up to look into his eyes. “I’m going to bury myself so deep inside you that you won’t know where I end and you begin.”

My body physically reacts. “Okay.”

I’m pulling down his zipper when there’s a loud boom and the whole house starts to shake. I’m stunned and trying to get my bearings as Legend grabs my clothes and starts putting them on me. As soon as I’m covered, he grabs his gun from the nightstand, throws me over his shoulder, and walks to the door of the bedroom. There’s a huge hole in the front of my house, and so Legend goes the opposite direction, carrying me out the back door. He climbs my picket fence with me on his shoulder and then starts running down the road. We’re blocks away before I get my bearings. “Legend, put me down.”

He’s barely out of breath. “You don’t have any shoes on.”

I twist my body so I can look at his feet. “Neither do you. Put me down.”

He walks to someone’s backyard and puts me down in the soft grass. “What was that?”

He puts his hands on the sides of my face. “Look at me. Walker’s men are coming here to take you to a safehouse.”
