“I want that too.” I glance toward the bathroom again. “We should check the test.”

His gaze meets mine as he takes my hand in his. “I’m ready if you are.”

I nod. “Let’s do this.”

EPILOGUE

Abby

Three Months Later

I rush out of our bedroom and almost run right into my fiancé. “Declan.”

“Abigail.” He gathers me into his arms. “Explain to me how you’re more beautiful with each passing day.”

I smile. “That’s a great line. Are you hoping to get laid before we leave?”

“It’s the honest truth.” He grins. “I’m always hoping I get a moment or an hour to kiss you, taste you, fuck you hard.”

“You make me want to take this dress off.”

His gaze drops to the soft pink dress I’m wearing. “I’ll help.”

I swat his shoulder, stopping to pluck a piece of cat hair off the black sweater he’s wearing. Since we adopted our kitten, Cindy, from the pet shelter last month, she’s been leaving white hairs everywhere.

I sigh. “We can’t be late for this, Declan. Mrs. Collymore is expecting us at seven sharp.”

“Someone else is expecting,” he murmurs.

My eyes widen. “You didn’t, did you?”

He kisses me before he makes his confession. “I did.”

My bottom lip trembles, but I silence it when I dig my top teeth into the corner of it. “Are you saying what I think you’re saying, Decky?”

“I’m saying don’t call me that, but…wait, I don’t care if you call me that.” He leans back slightly to look me over. “You’re going to be my wife in a few weeks, and the mother of my child in less than nine months.”

“I’m pregnant?” I bolt up to my tiptoes to kiss his jaw. “Was the test positive this time?”

He nods slowly. “I couldn’t wait. I checked the test. We did it, my love. Our baby is on the way.”

Since the first test we took on the night we became engaged, we’ve been trying to conceive. We were both disappointed with the negative result, but it was the starting point for an important discussion about our future family.

I moved in with Declan that week, stopped taking the pill, and we trashed the condoms. We also made a vow to try every chance we had.

“It’s too early to tell anyone,” I whisper. “It’s our little secret until I’m past the first trimester.”

“Okay,” he agrees. “I won’t tell a soul.”

“Not even your brother or his wife,” I warn with a wag of my finger.

“I didn’t announce that we were trying during their wedding, did I?” he teases. “I promised you I’d keep the speech I made with my sister focused on Sean, and I did it.”

“You did.” I kiss him softly. “We need to go.”

“On the way to the theater, explain to me how you managed to get both of your clients to hold onto their companies.” He crosses our bedroom to grab my purse. “Kalina is killing it right now with her new product line, and Mrs. Collymore’s idea to sell homemade baked goods at her theaters is brilliant.”

I toss him a smile. “I give amazing legal advice.”

When Kalina told me she was developing a new line of sex toys, I encouraged her to push the launch up, so it would all be in place before her due date. She was grateful for the suggestion since she’s expecting twin boys with her boyfriend.

She did take the step of pulling Llura condoms from store shelves to rerun all the necessary tests. It turns out that her boyfriend used another brand the night they conceived. Despite that, she’s decided to keep that division in her portfolio for now. Declan is still considering the idea of a brand of condoms for Wells, but he says that’s a distant dream he’ll work on in due time.

Two months ago, I handed Mrs. Collymore the deal of a lifetime, but she turned me down after deciding that testing her baked goods at her theaters’ concession stands was a smart move. I jumped on board and helped her with all the legal paperwork required to make that change.

So far, the future looks bright for both women.

“I’m a great lawyer,” I tell my fiancé. “You know that.”

“I do know that.” He looks into my eyes. “I also know that I’m marrying you in less than a month, and I can’t fucking wait.”

I wave to Nyssa and Otto as I watch them enter the theater hand-in-hand.

Tonight is a private screening of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in honor of my sister’s birthday.

Many of Carrie’s co-workers and a few of our mutual friends, including Nyssa are on the guest list. When I texted the invite, she called me in response to tell me she was going to try again with Myka’s dad.

I was thrilled for both of them and their daughter too.

“You should come with us,” Declan says to Rygar. “Everyone loves a good movie.”
