After dropping the name of Nyssa’s favorite designer and co-worker, I spin in a circle to show off my red and blue patterned dress.

“Very funny,” my friend scoffs. “Although, that dress does you all kinds of favors. Your breasts look amazing.”

A brown-haired man carrying a briefcase clears his throat as he brushes past us.

I shake my head. “He heard you say that.”

“He agrees with me,” she calls after the man. “He’s just too much of a gentleman to say it out loud.”

The guy glances over his shoulder to flash us a smile. “What she said.”

I bow my chin but don’t take it as far as thanking him verbally for the compliment.

“You look different.” Nyssa motions for me to join her as she heads toward the line of people. “You’ve been having sex.”

Is it that obvious?

I silently shrug a shoulder as I gaze up at the menu that details all of the café’s offerings. I don’t need to do that since I’ll order the same thing I always do.

“Abby?”

I glance to the left at Nyssa’s face. “What?”

“I know you don’t like discussing sex after what happened with Seth.” She sighs. “I shouldn’t have said his name.”

“It’s fine,” I reassure her. “Seth is my ex-husband, emphasis on the ex. He’s part of my past, and you’re right. Intimacy is a touchy subject for me now, and that’s not a pun.”

A grin tugs at the corners of her lips. “It kind of is a pun, and it’s a good one.”

I can’t help but smile. “I am seeing someone, and I like him, but there’s nothing to tell.”

She studies my face. “I can’t tell if you’re lying or not. You are a damn good lawyer, Abby Duvall.”

I laugh. “I’m having fun. Isn’t that all that matters?”

“As long as a big part of that fun is orgasms.”

The brown-haired man with the briefcase passes us again at the worst possible time. He lets out a low chuckle. “I hope the two of you enjoy the rest of your day.”

“Oh, we will.” Nyssa flashes him a smile. “I hope you do the same.”

As soon as he’s out the door, I poke a finger into her shoulder. “He was into you.”

She glances back at the door briefly. “He’s not my type.”

“He’s handsome, and judging by his suit, he’s rich.” I smile. “What part of that isn’t your type?”

“I’m holding out for just the right guy,” she says with a wink. “I’ll know him when I find him, and for the record, Abs, I’m not in any rush.”

I nod. “Speaking of being in a rush, I am.”

That earns me a laugh from her. “A lawyer’s work is never done, right?”

“I’m meeting with my first real client in thirty minutes,” I tell her, deliberately leaving out the fact that he also happens to be the best lover I’ve ever had.

“You’ll blow them away.” She smiles. “We’re up next, so you’ll make it with time to spare.”

I look toward the barista counter. “We’ll meet up again this week, okay?”

“Only if you’re not getting railed into next week by the mystery man.” She tilts her head to the side and crosses two of her fingers. “Here’s hoping that happens every night this week.”

I drop my hand behind my back and cross my middle and index fingers, hoping that this week brings at least a night or two with Declan.

CHAPTER THIRTY

Declan

I walk into my office to find Abigail and Helena waiting for me.

I’m ten minutes late for our meeting. I blame that on my brother. He pulled me into his office as I was passing by. He wanted to discuss how to swaddle a newborn.

Even though I have no experience wrapping a baby in a blanket, he was determined to demonstrate his skills to me. His use of a towel from the executive bathroom as a makeshift blanket and a balled-up pair of boxer briefs to mimic a baby was fucking hilarious, but he didn’t seem to care.

I did what I could not to chuckle through the entire presentation. I lost it at the end when the boxer briefs shot out from the bottom of the rolled-up towel just as he lifted it to cradle it next to his chest.

I finally escaped that when I sat him down at his desk in front of his laptop so he could watch a video tutorial on the correct way to do the task.

He’s capable of it. He’s the one who wanted to hire a private nurse to walk him and his fiancée through the basics of caring for a newborn. Ava and I told him and Callie that their parental instinct would kick in, but Sean wasn’t convinced. Callie said no to the nurse, so my brother eventually gave up on the idea.

Since then, Callie’s sister, Naomi, has shared her massive wealth of knowledge with the two expectant parents. She has three kids, so she’s been their guide through the last trimester of this pregnancy.
