“Let’s do breakfast after more time in bed,” she suggests with a glint in her eye. “If that’s okay with you.”

Before she can register what’s happening, I’ve got her up and over my shoulder. I give her lush ass a firm slap that pulls a yelp from her, followed by a breathy sigh.

“I’ll do anything you want,” I say as I start down the hallway toward her bedroom. “You name it, and it’s yours.”

CHAPTER FORTY-TWO

Abby

I would say that a weekend spent with Declan Wells is just what the doctor ordered, but absolutely nothing is wrong with me. I’m healthy, and happy, and I think I’m falling into a forever kind of love with the man of my dreams.

I give myself one last once-over before I exit my bedroom on Monday morning. I need to get to work. If luck is on my side and my timing lines up, I’ll ride the elevator to my office with Declan.

Even if that doesn’t happen, we agreed to talk later to discuss meeting up for dinner tonight.

My common sense is telling me to slow this down, but my heart is in control, and it can’t get enough of the gorgeous man who softly kissed me before he left my apartment last night.

Just as I’m about to exit my bedroom, there’s a faint knock at the door.

It has to be Carrie. She arrived home last night after I had already crawled into bed. I was tempted to get up to hear about her Bishop Hotel weekend adventures, but sleep got its claws in me before I could make that a reality.

I was exhausted, in the best way possible, from having the best sex of my life all weekend. Many unforgettable out-of-bed moments were sprinkled in the mix, including a picnic in Central Park and a dinner at Nova, one of the nicest restaurants in the city. We scored a table in the corner, and I was blown away by the food prepared just for us. The head chef and co-owner of the restaurant, Tyler Monroe, is an old friend of Declan’s, so he took extra good care of us.

I feel I know the man better today than I did on Friday. I can’t wait to learn everything there is to know about him.

“Abs?” Carrie’s voice carries through the door. “Are you still home?”

I swing the door open, and am instantly in my stepsister’s arms. She holds me so tight that for a brief moment, I fear she’s about to deliver bad news to me.

“Thank you,” she whispers. “Thank you for a wonderful weekend.”

She lets me step back from the hug to look at her face. I see nothing but happiness there.

“You had a good time?” I ask, even though the evidence that she did is written all over her expression.

“The best time,” she says with a smile. “I haven’t been that relaxed in years, and it was inspiring, Abby. I’m eager to get to my lab this morning and work on a new cologne for next spring’s lineup.”

“Good.” I move to kiss her cheek. “I’m going to treat you to self-care weekends more often.”

“So you can get it on with the big shoe guy?”

I hold in a laugh. “Get it on? Really, Carrie?”

“Have sex, screw, or that other word? Is that better?” She blushes.

“That other word? You mean fuck?” I shake my head. “It’s okay to use four-letter words. You are an adult now.”

She sighs. “Let’s talk about your weekend. Was it everything you hoped it would be?”

I look into her eyes. “Better.”

“He was good to you?” she asks with a hint of concern in her voice. “I’m a little worried about you, Abs.”

“Worried? Why?”

“You told me on Friday that you’re falling in love with him,” she reminds me. “I thought about it, and I’m still so happy for you, but…”

“But what?” I question.

“But how does he feel about you?” Her tone softens. “I’m scared he’ll break your heart.”

“Declan wouldn’t do that,” I assure her. “I think he’s falling for me too, Carrie.”

“Declan?” Her gaze scans my face. “As in Declan Wells?”

Stunned that she knows who he is, I shrug my shoulders. “How do you know who he is?”

The sends her head back in laughter. “You’re aware that the man you love is besties with your boss, right? Mr. Thorsen has at least a dozen pictures of Declan on his socials.”

I tilt my head. “Maybe it’s time for me to pay more attention to what my boss is doing online.”

“I’ve got that covered.” She laughs. “I need to get to work. I’ll be staying late tonight, so let’s plan dinner together for a night this week, okay?”

“You bet.” I squeeze her hand. “I love you, sis.”

“Love you more,” she says. “For the record, I hope Declan Wells is your prince charming.”

I hope he is too. I hope that with my entire heart and soul.
