The guilt began spreading out, shooting through my veins until it took me over. Christ, what were we doing? This was going to end all sorts of bad. I was stuck between this intense desire for Kellan and my loyalty to Griffin, who had always been the best kind of friend to me.

“I think that’s part of the point,” Lawson replied. “You’re too protective of him. If he’s keeping something from you, it’s because of you. Trust him. I’m sure he knows what he’s doing. He’s twenty-eight years old. And how do you know I’m straight?”

Both Griff and I whipped toward Lawson. Shit. Was Lawson bi? I’d wondered, but from the look on Griff’s face, I was pretty sure he hadn’t.

“You’re not straight?” I asked, and he shrugged.

“Maybe. Maybe not. Unless we’re fucking, it’s no business of yours. And no offense, but you’re not my type, Hawthorne.” Law winked playfully.

“I don’t care who you sleep with as long as it’s not Kellan,” Griff added. “Fuck Chase, or maybe Josh. Chase is sort of ugly.”

“Suck my dick, Caine.” I grabbed my cock.

“Now, boys. What are you doing having all this fun without me?”

I turned at the sound of Becca’s voice. She squeezed in beside me and wrapped her arm around my shoulders. “Plus, I’d be much better at blowing you. I remember what you like.”

Everyone laughed but me. I managed a smile, but discomfort swam around in my veins. I felt like I was doing something wrong. And as much as I cared about Becca, and as beautiful as she was, hers weren’t the arms I wanted around me or the mouth I wanted to sink my dick into. No, that belonged to Kellan, which was really fucking dangerous and stupid.

“You want a drink? I’ll buy you a drink,” I told her, wanting to be polite.

The man beside her got up, and Becca took the stool. “Nah, that’s okay. I’m driving. Just thought I’d pop in and say hi. How y’all doing?”

The Kellan conversation was dropped, thankfully, as they started to chat with Becca. Every so often Griff would sneak away to take care of customers or whatever he had to do, but there were other bartenders on shift, and he was giving them all the tips so he could take it easy.

I tried to join the conversation when I could, but I found myself thinking about what Griff had said, and checking my phone, and wondering what Kellan was doing. Fucking Kellan Caine was screwing with my head, and I wasn’t quite sure how to deal with it.

Griff got me another beer, which I gladly took, forcing myself to leave my phone alone and stop acting like a lovesick pup.

I couldn’t get my head in the game no matter how hard I tried. Bec kept touching me, innocent touches that shouldn’t have bothered me, but then I thought of Josh with Kellan. How it made me feel when they touched. They were so close, and having Becca do the same to me felt wrong.

About an hour or so after Becca got there, I pulled some cash out of my wallet and told Griff to close my tab. “I’m gonna head out.” I pushed to my feet.

“You’re not driving, right?” Griff asked, and I shook my head.

“You know better than to have to ask me that shit.” I didn’t drink and drive. Never had and never would.

“I think I’ll get going too,” Becca added. “I can take you home so you don’t have to pay for a ride.”

Griffin smiled at me, and I knew exactly where his mind was going. He cocked a brow as if to say I told you so. He was convinced Becca and I were going to pick up where we’d left off years ago. Of course, he didn’t know I was sleeping with his brother, so I couldn’t blame him for thinking that.

A customer needed Griff, so he walked away just as I told her, “You don’t have to do that. Don’t want you to have to go out of your way.”

“I don’t mind, silly.” She smiled, and my stomach sank.

I said my goodbyes to Law and waved at Griff as Becca and I left the bar. I followed her over to a—“Holy shit. She’s pretty.” Damned if she didn’t drive an older red Corvette.

“She was my daddy’s, remember?” Becca said, and memories began floating to the surface. The first time I’d kissed Becca had been up against this car, but she sure hadn’t looked as good as she did now. “We put a lot of work into her.”

“You guys did a great job.”

Becca opened the door and slid inside. I did the same. I still felt that twist of my insides. The one telling me this was wrong, and I was pretty sure she expected something. Logically, Kellan and I were only friends with benefits, and for all I knew, he’d gone home with someone tonight, but I couldn’t do it. I didn’t want anyone else. Just him.
