“Hey, man. You guys want your usual?” Griff asked him. “And Kell can’t even come say hi to me? He sends you?”

“Kellan has already had a few too many, and he’s getting demanding. You know how he is, and when Kellan wants something, he gets it.”

I didn’t have to look to know Josh’s eyes darted to me when he said that. I couldn’t stop myself from wondering if Kellan had ever wanted Josh and if he’d had him.

“Better you than me, brother. He’s spoiled as shit is what he is,” Griff replied as he made drinks.

“Eh, what are friends for? I know a good thing when I see it, and I know how to appreciate it.”

Oh, fuck him. I hated Kellan’s friend. The guy obviously wasn’t going to stop busting my balls.

“What’s wrong with Kell?” Griff asked, and as soon as he said it, I knew something must be. If Griff said it, it was true. Those two could read each other like no one’s business.

“Some guy was an asshole at the shop. He’s fine. Kellan is a big boy, and he can take care of himself,” Josh challenged, and I had to admit, the kid had balls because no one challenged Griff when it came to Kellan. I was surprised when Griff simply nodded.

“What happened?” I couldn’t stop myself from asking. “Is someone harassing him?”

Josh shrugged. “Not my place to say, Officer.” He took their drinks and walked away.

Did I mention I really fucking hated Josh? Because I really did.

The conversation continued around me. Becca still played with my hair, but it didn’t feel as good anymore. My eyes kept finding their way back to Kellan and his friends. They were playing pool, and he was laughing that contagious fucking laugh of his. He sat on Josh’s lap at one point, the other guy’s muscular arms around Kellan’s waist, and this stab of jealousy pierced through my chest.

Fuck, what was wrong with me? I needed to evict this shit with Kellan out of me. I had no business wanting to fuck my best friend’s little brother…but I did. I’d wanted to fuck him for ten years, and that shit didn’t seem to be going away.

CHAPTER NINE

Kellan

“I’m feeling very used right now,” Josh said into my ear.

“You’re poking my ass with your hard cock. I think you’re getting something out of this too.” I shifted to tease him. Griff’s was the only straight bar in the world I would feel comfortable doing this, and it was less because of Havenwood and more because it was Griff’s and everyone knew there was no bigotry here.

“Eh, what do you expect when I have a pretty boy on my lap? I’m only so strong.”

I looked back at him over my shoulder and rolled my eyes.

“It’s a good thing you’re my best friend and I don’t see you like that,” Josh added.

“Your dick doesn’t seem to agree.”

He shrugged. “My dick doesn’t get us.”

No…no, it didn’t. “I love you.” I kissed him quickly on the lips. I really did love him. The day Josh had come into my life, my whole world had changed. He was the one person in my world who cared about me and had no connection to my past or my brother. It was all about me for Josh, and that felt good. Even with Nat, I loved her like crazy, but she wanted to bone my brother. That wasn’t why we were friends, but it was still a fact.

“Your man is seething over there. I thought he was going to punch me,” Josh said.

“He’s not my man.”

“What did I miss?” Nat asked as she came back from the bathroom. “Is Chase still shooting daggers out of his eyes at Josh?”

The three of us laughed, and I knew Chase was watching. I looked over and cocked a brow at him, and then Becca—the Becca—who I was pretty sure Chase would end up with again, said something to him.

Damned if he didn’t turn around and look at me again, this sadness there I didn’t really understand. It twisted me up and snatched my breath, making me wiggle and get off Josh’s lap.

“What’s wrong?” Josh asked.

“Nothing. I…need to go take a leak.” Which was a lie. Still, I made my way to the bathroom. There was a guy at one of the urinals. I went to the sink and washed my hands, then splashed some water on my face. It was ridiculous, the way Chase affected me. It made me feel weak, and honestly, sort of pathetic. I hated that, but I didn’t know how to fix it.

The guy pissing finished, washed his hands, and walked out. When I didn’t hear the sound of the door closing, I looked up and saw Chase standing in the doorway, watching me. He stepped inside, and the sound of the door shutting echoed through the room.
