“Sorry—can’t let anyone mess with your property.”

“You are testing me, Cupcake.”

“What are you going to do, Mr. Barone? Hit me?”

“No, I’m going to fuck you so hard you’ll forget that bastard, and then I’m going to hunt him down and put a bullet between his eyes for giving you a second look and thinking he could take my place.” He leans in, mouth moving closer to mine. I part my lips, wanting to feel those hard, angry lips on mine, but then a knock on the door halts everything. He closes his eyes and growls, “Yes.”

“Father Anthony is here.”

“Thank you, Marco. My bride and I will be down right now.” He cups my chin and stares into my eyes. “I want the name of the Russian.”

“I want to leave town. How does it feel to want?” I add. “Unless you’d like to postpone it.”

He narrows his eyes and glares. “You’re more Moreno than I’ve given you credit for, Patricia. I’ll fix that soon.” I gasp, and then he slams his lips on mine and quickly pulls back, moving me away from the door, opening it and leading us out.

“Let’s get this show on the road. Time to fix my problems, one at a time.”

“Babaso.”

He stops at the bottom of the steps and leans in with a deadly whisper, “I sure hope that’s an endearment, Wife, because I assure you that I’ll be taking you over my knee and treating every insult with a nice spanking.”

I gasp at both the threat and the strange way it affects my body. Sneering at my future husband, I clench my teeth and answer, “Says the man that called me his problem.”

He smiles and taps my lips. “Amore, I apologize for the misunderstanding. I was talking about this ten-inch stiff cock stretching out my slacks and the unbred womb of yours that needs filling.”

My lips part in shock, and I swear my womb just opened, begging to be flooded with his seed. “Oh.”

“Yes. Oh. By the way, you’re sexy when you’re angry. It only makes me harder.” He winks and then kisses my temple.

Suddenly Gio’s father approaches, and then there’s a beautiful woman with him who must be his wife because she looks like his sister. “Oh my goodness. I can see why all the fuss, Giovanni. Enemy or not, she’s stunningly gorgeous.”

“Mother, this is…”

“Patricia Moreno. Your father informed me. I would say it’s a pleasure, but we all know it’s a bit of a shock.” She stares at me, and there’s something in her gaze that unnerves me. Is she challenging me? These women are just like the women in my father’s family. They claim innocence, but they’re just as dangerous and duplicitous. My mother would sell out my father and each one of us in a heartbeat. Hell, she did it to me.

“I’d say it’s a pleasure, but Gio knows I’d rather—” His hand comes over my mouth.

“Say it, and so help me, I’ll fucking hunt him down right now and let you watch as I torture the fucker.” His parents stare at their son in disbelief.

“Giovanni, since when did you become a stone-cold killer,” the head of the mob says with a chuckle. I don’t remember his name, but I remember his face because he wasn’t playing earlier when he warned Gio about talking shit to his wife. All the men in this family are handsome, but none of them compare to Gio, except for his father, of course, because he resembles him.

“Since someone else wants to marry my bride,” Gio answers.

“Oh, you mean Sergei Morozov?” Mr. Barone says.

“You know?” I gasp.

“Well, we’ll deal with him after this.” Could he actually be jealous?

The head of the mafia shakes his head. “Where the fuck were you before? My boring, techy accountant suddenly has killer instincts.” He looks to Gio’s father and says, “Enrico, this motherfucker finally sounds as crazy as my wife.”

“About time,” Gio’s father says with a smile.

“Nobody takes what belongs to Gio,” his sister says.

“True,” Gio says.

“You know how he gets when you take his money,” his sister adds. Oh. I’m just his property—his revenge against my father and reason to get even.

“Shall we get on with it before we are visited by trouble? I have a feeling the fucking cops will show up at my door with some lame fucking excuse to cause trouble.” There are several other women who must be married to the other men here, but I’m not formally introduced just yet, and frankly I can’t remember everyone’s names. Not that I’m that eager to get to know the family.

“Sounds good,” Gio says.

Twenty minutes later, I’m Mrs. Giovanni Barone and when his lips hit mine, I forget all the reasons why he took me and claimed me because that mouth on me is like magic. He fists my hair at the back of my head with pure, unadulterated passion. “Mine,” he growls as his lips slowly pull away. “Forever, Cupcake.”
