I shivered in his arms, and my nipples went hard and tingly at his words.

Sadly…

“I have to go,” I moaned.

He grinned, but nonetheless took advantage of my closeness and pulled me in for a solid, heart-pounding kiss before he let me go.

He brought his coffee cup up to his mouth as his eyes twinkled.

“I wish I could go with you,” Easton said against his coffee cup.

I wished he could, too.

But, alas, I was a big girl, and I did big girl things upon occasion.

“This one will allow me to be home by one in the morning.” I paused. “I hope. As long as nothing stupid happens, like crazy cows trying to do acrobats.”

He chuckled as he pushed away from the sink.

My eyes went to the mark on his chest from the knife wound, then to the part of the burn on his shoulder I could see from how I was standing.

“How are you today?” I gestured to him with my cup before taking a sip.

Easton’s coffee was fancy.

Fancy as in I didn’t need coffee creamer to drink it, fancy.

I liked it, and it was growing on me.

Which wasn’t a good thing seeing as he had expensive taste in coffee, too.

“I’m good,” he purred. “And unless you want to be late, and I want to be happy again, you need to go.”

I sighed and looked down at my attire.

I was wearing jeans, a t-shirt, and Converse shoes.

Nothing sexy about what I was wearing, but with the way Easton looked at me…

“I’ll go,” I grumbled. “I’ll call you at the halfway point. Let me know if you need anything before I come all the way back home.”

Easton gave me a kiss, then walked me all the way to the door before watching me back out of his driveway.

I noticed he didn’t leave until I couldn’t see him in my rearview mirror anymore.

As I shifted gears and glided down the road, I was determined to make the day a good one, despite really wanting to be at home in Easton’s arms.

Turns out, that’s not possible when the man you’re beginning to fall for has a stalker.

Two hours into my drive, I was in Arkansas.

My eyes were on the road in front of me until I saw weird blinking lights in my rearview mirror.

When I glanced backward it was to see a State Trooper’s SUV barreling down on me, lights flashing.

“Son of a bitch,” I grumbled as I pulled over to the side, hoping they’d go around me.

They didn’t.

The SUV followed me over, and I cursed.

“Record,” I called to my dashcam.

I saw the red light blink on just as I pulled to a complete stop.

Sadly, where I was didn’t have much of a shoulder, so the traffic passed by rather close, making it to where the cop couldn’t get to my window for a solid two minutes.

I rolled it down and waited with my hands on the wheel, knowing for a fact he had nothing to pull me over for.

At least, I didn’t think he did.

I was proved wrong seconds later.

“Ma’am,” the highway patrol officer said as he stepped up to my vehicle. “Can you step out of the truck, please?”

My brows rose in surprise at his words. They usually never had us step out.

“Sure,” I said, always cooperative with cops, because they could make your life hell as a truck driver if you didn’t.

I looked in my rearview mirror to make sure there was no traffic coming, then grabbed my phone, stuffed it into my pocket, and got out.

I wasted no time jogging to keep up with the cop that was heading toward the back to avoid getting hit by any surprise motorists.

When we got back there, it was barely in time for a car to top the hill and honk on his way past.

I frowned, breathless, and stared at the cop. “What’s the problem, officer?”

He scowled at me.

And I wasn’t sure if it was because of the car that’d just passed us flying, or at me for asking him the simple question.

“We had a tip that you were carrying unauthorized cargo.” The officer looked pissed as hell.

As in, at me.

But I hadn’t done anything… Sareen.

Was it possible that she would be able to pull off a random search two states away?

“It is an empty trailer filled with crates,” I explained. “The company I picked the load up from ships valuables.”

It was obvious that he didn’t believe me.

I gritted my teeth and walked to the trailer doors, opening them with the code and flinging it wide open. “Have at it.”

The metal groaned as it was opened, and even I could see with just a small glance that I was right. Though there were a lot of crates, you could see into almost every single one. They were empty.

The officer crawled in anyway, saying something on his radio as he moved.
