“You gonna dance with me or what?” Carter asked.

Now, I wasn’t sure if this came as a surprise or not, but I wasn’t a huge dancer.

“Um…no?” He poked out his bottom lip teasingly, and I groaned. “Ugh. Fine. One dance.”

“Three.”

“Two.”

“Deal!” Carter replied, dragging me to the dance floor.

I danced for three songs, goddamn him, before it was my turn to drag him back toward the bar. The truth was, I would stay out there all night with him if he wanted me to, and I was pretty sure he knew that.

“I love you,” he whispered close to my ear.

“I love you too.” A smile pulled at my lips. Christ, I never thought I would get this lucky.

“Hey, Baby Burke!”

I looked over just as my brother approached us with a blonde woman. She was beautiful and just Cam’s type, curvy in all the right places. Still, it threw me for a second because it had been a while since I’d seen him with a woman, and he sure as shit had never brought a woman to Saturgay before.

“Hey, what’s up?” I said, and he ruffled my hair before hugging me. I could tell he had already been drinking. “You okay?”

“Yeah, of course. Why wouldn’t I be? Sawyer, Carter, this is Melinda. Mel, this is my little brother, Sawyer, and his boyfriend, Carter.”

“Hi, Melinda. Nice to meet you.” Carter and I said our hellos, followed by everyone else in the crew. There was definitely some confusion all the way around. I could see it on everyone’s faces, which I got, because this wasn’t normal, but then I told myself it shouldn’t be like that. Camden was bi. He was attracted to women too.

“Oh, hey. You’re here,” Jude said. “Beer?”

“Yeah, and what do you want, Mel?” he asked her, and I could see the moment Jude realized she was there with Cam.

He stumbled a little, his eyes going wide, before he seemed to catch himself and wiped any emotion from his face.

“Just a vodka and cranberry is good for me,” Melinda replied.

Jude nodded before getting Cam’s beer and making her drink.

A stool opened up, and I nodded for Carter to take it, then stood between his legs.

“Are you sensing the same tension here that I am?” he asked.

“Hell yes.”

Linc started pulling some of his antics after that and making everyone laugh. I couldn’t help but watch Jude, who stayed mostly on the other side of the bar, letting other bartenders help us. Every few minutes, his eyes would find Cam again, who had his arms around Melinda as he talked with Rush, Jace, and Ashton.

We didn’t stay at Fever long. It was funny—the more we all began pairing off, the earlier we tended to go home on Saturgays. It wasn’t that we didn’t all love them; things were just different now. Netflix and couch cuddles were more exciting than anything else.

“You gonna take me home and fuck me soon, or what?” Carter asked.

“Fuck yes,” I replied. Once someone said they were going, it was usually a domino effect, everyone else following quickly.

Carter and I made some excuse about getting home early because we were going to see his mom the next day. It wasn’t a lie—we were going to see her—but that wasn’t why we were going home.

“We’re gonna stay,” Cam said, signaling to Melinda.

I hugged him and asked, “Are you sure you’re okay?”

“Yeah, BB. You’re worrying over nothing. Go home with your man.”

I nodded, and the rest of us all left together. We said our goodbyes outside Fever, and Carter and I headed home.

“It’s a beautiful night,” Carter said. He did this little spin and then held his hand out for me, which I took, smiling.

“Yeah, it is.”

“You’re not talking about the night, are you?”

I laughed. “Nope.” I was definitely talking about him.

“Flirt,” he teased. “You’ve already locked this shit down. You don’t have to try to get into my pants.”

“When did I ever have to try?”

“Oh, fuck you!” He punched me, and we laughed as I pulled him close, wrapping my arms around him.

We were in the middle of the sidewalk, cars rushing down the street, people walking around us, but it didn’t seem to matter. We just held each other.

“I never thought I’d have this,” Carter said.

“I never thought I would either.”

“You know we’re the best couple out of all of them, right?” he said, and I laughed in a way only he could make me do.

“Obviously.”

“It’s not going to be easy to put up with me for the rest of your life. Are you sure you’re up for it?” Carter cocked a brow at me.

“Are you issuing me a challenge?”

He shrugged, and again, I smiled. “Game on.”

“Game on.”
