“Maybe.

“It’s the only other walkable place. Let’s check it out.”

The only walkable place. Christ, she had to be there. What was the alternative? Someone snatched her before she could get in the car? The thought of it made him sick to his stomach.

As they turned toward the bar, the door opened, and a woman burst out, running at top speed.

Not just any woman.

Rachel.

“Rachel!” he shouted, but she didn’t hear him over the whir of the cars speeding by.

A large man shoved out the door and barreled after Rachel. He wore a cut Frost recognized too damn well after fighting four of them almost two weeks ago.

“Jinx.”

“I see her. Let’s move.”

Together they ran toward the busy road.

Frost held up his hand. “Stop!” he shouted at a car as he stepped into the street. The driver stuck his hand out the window and flipped them off.

There wasn’t time to apologize.

A small break in traffic let him and Jinx run across the street.

Rachel and the dead man chasing her already had a substantial lead on them, so Frost pushed his legs to their limit. He pulled ahead of Jinx as they made it to the sidewalk in front of the bar.

Cars whizzed by, unconcerned by the chase happening next to them.

Frost pounded the pavement.

With every step, he gained on the piece of shit chasing his woman.

A car horn blared next to him.

Assholes.

Rachel’s scream had his heart nearly exploding from his chest. He pushed harder until his lungs burned, and his legs felt like rubber.

Rachel soared through the air then crashed to the ground with another scream. The man chasing her stopped.

“Get the fuck up, bitch,” he said.

Frost pulled a gun from the small of his back—he had started carrying it after the bar fight.

He held the gun to the back of the motherfucker’s head. “If you want any chance of surviving till Christmas, you let her fucking go.”

A tortured sob ripped from Rachel, spearing Frost directly in the heart.

Torn between ripping the man to shreds and gathering Rachel in his arms, he glanced over his shoulder as Jinx ran up.

“I got him,” Jinx took the gun from him. “Go to your ol’ lady.”

“Thanks.”

“You got it.” Jinx winked. “Brother.”

Damn, that sounded good.

He wasn’t a brother and wouldn’t be until they patched him in, but to know Jinx saw him as one already? It was powerful fucking stuff.

He dropped to his knees next to a bloodied, weeping Rachel. “Baby, it’s over.”

She lifted her head. Watery, mascara-streaked eyes met his, but what gutted him was the blood pouring from her chin. She must have split it when she landed.

“You’re here,” she whispered.

He gently scooped her up onto his lap. Her hands were as mangled as her chin, and she’d ripped her pants open at the knees where the concrete had ravaged them as well. She needed to be patched up, maybe get stitches, but what she needed more was comfort.

“Of course, I’m here, Rach. When you didn’t show, Brooke got worried.”

“She called you?”

“She sure did.”

“I did it, Frost. I didn’t panic. Well, not too bad. But I fought back.”

Damn, this woman was amazing.

He kissed the top of her head. “Fuck, I’m proud of you. Let’s get you to the ER. I think you might need stitches.”

“Oh, no, please, no hospitals. I hate them.”

“Babe—”

“Please, Frost. I just want to go home. Back to the clubhouse.”

Hearing her call his MC home made him unable to deny her. “Fine. But we’re gonna have Pulse look at you. Stitch you up if need be.” No way would a Band-Aid be sufficient.

Frost shifted her off his lap then stood. Rachel tried to stand, but one wince was all he needed to see before he scooped her into his arms.

“Frost, I can walk.”

Not without pain. “Humor me.”

“Fine.” She rolled her eyes.

Much better than tears.

“I suppose I can deal with my strong man carrying me for a few minutes.”

Frost chuckled. He turned to find Curly walking down the sidewalk toward them.

“How’s she doing?”

“I’m fine,” Rachel said. “Well, kinda.”

Frost huffed. “She’s all busted and cut. I’m gonna have Pulse patch her up. What’s going on in the restaurant?”

“We got all four of them tied up in there. Can you tell me what happened, Rachel?”

“Uh, sure. I had time before I had to return Brooke’s car, and I was hungry, so I stopped in there for a bite. As I was eating, those bikers came in. One of them sat down with me and started talking shit. When I got up to leave, he grabbed me. He, uh…” Her gaze shifted to the ground. “He got a little handsy.”

Frost couldn’t help it. He snarled like a wild animal whose mate had been threatened.

“Down, boy,” Curly said with a wry grin.

“Sorry.” He needed to get Rachel out of there but also wanted to be there when Spec made those assholes suffer. “What’s the plan?”
