“Clearly, we’re trying to keep you distracted with a million activities.”
Ugh. She really didn’t want to ask the next question but couldn’t keep it in. “Is this because Frost doesn’t want to see me?”
Liv laughed as she pulled her phone from her designer purse. “Uh, no.” She swiped a few times and held the screen facing Rachel. “This is a fraction of the four hundred texts that man has sent me asking when we’ll stop holding you hostage. Trust me, girl, he is dying to see you.” She smiled a wicked grin. “Actually, I think he’s dying to get his hands on you… if you know what I mean.”
Brooke rolled her eyes. “Pretty sure my coffee cup knows what you mean. You’re about as subtle as your eight-hundred-dollar shoes.”
“Hey!” Liv frowned down at her ankle boots. “These are from Target.”
“You trying to tell me you don’t have eight-hundred-dollar shoes?” Brooke arched an eyebrow.
“My first car cost six hundred dollars,” Jo muttered.
“Shut up!” Liv flipped her friends double-handed middle fingers. “And that must have been a truly crappy car.”
“Oh, it was.”
As entertaining as they were, Rachel needed answers. She clapped twice. “Focus, ladies! There will be plenty of time to argue about the shoes later. And plenty of time to let me try them on.”
Liv laughed. “You got it.”
“First off, the guys have been busy with club stuff,” Jo said.
“Really? Busy? That sounds like bull crap to me.” Rachel sipped her latte. The sugary and spicy hit of peppermint hit the spot.
Laughing, Jo said, “I like you, Rach. You’re a perfect fit for us. But I’m not bullshitting you. The guys who fought Frost the other night have been causing some trouble around town. Vandalism, more bar fights, things like that. Our guys are trying to locate where they’re staying.”
“Oh. So actually busy.” Rachel frowned. Hopefully, Frost wasn’t overdoing it. It’d only been a few days since he’d been bruised to hell. He couldn’t be feeling too spry.
Nodding her agreement, Brooke reached across the table. She was quite a few years older than Rachel, much closer to Curly’s forty-seven than her own twenty-four. So far, it seemed as though she’d be a perfect big sister to complement the brother she’d gained in Curly.
“I think Curly wanted you to have space, not Frost.”
“Oh.” The man was proving to be quite protective of her.
Brooke’s smile held warmth. “He doesn’t want you to feel overwhelmed or pressured in any way.”
Damn, protective and sweet. But it wasn’t necessary. Even with her issues, she’d been taking care of herself for a long time. Though having people in her corner was amazing. “That’s really sweet of him but unnecessary.”
“Well, you’re gonna have to get used to it. The man loves nothing more than looking out for his family.” Brooke squeezed her hand. “How are you feeling about things with Frost? It has to be at least a little overwhelming.”
“I’m feeling horny,” Rachel said before her brain had a chance to check the automatic response. She gasped and slapped a hand over her mouth.
All three women froze, staring at her. Her heart beat heavy once, twice, and a third time before the ladies burst out laughing.
“Hell, yes, girl!” Liv held out her hand for a high-five.
“I can’t believe I said that.” Face hot as her steaming coffee, Rachel tapped her palm against Liv’s.
Her new friend chortled with delight and then typed away on her phone with flying thumbs. “Time to go, girls. According to my man, he and Frost just got back on MC property. He dropped Frost at his apartment.” She lifted her gaze and speared Rachel with a heated look. “All. Alone.”
“Oh yeah.” Jo stood. “Good thing we got to-go cups. Let’s go get you some!”
“Yay! Matchmaking.” Brooke clapped her hands and stood as well.
“Wait. What is happening?” Rachel still sat at the table, staring up at the three excited faces of her friends.
“We’re getting you back to the compound so you can rip Frost’s clothes off and do dirty, dirty things to him. Or have dirty things done to you. Or both.” Liv fanned her face. “Might need to drag Spec home myself. Let’s roll!”
For the second time in as many days, Rachel found herself swept away by the tornado that was the MC’s ol’ lady squad.
She couldn’t be mad about it though, seeing as how they planned to deliver her straight to Frost on a silver platter.
Finally.
CHAPTER TWELVE
FROST WATCHED THE ladies spill out of Brooke’s SUV, laughing and lugging handfuls of shopping bags.
Rachel hugged each of her friends then made her way toward the apartments while the three troublemakers headed into the clubhouse.
About fucking time.
He’d had enough of this bullshit distance Curly’s meddling had enforced. Yeah, he got it, the man wanted to take care of his sister and make sure she had time to think and process her emotions, but enough was enough. Frost wanted her, and nothing would ever happen if they couldn’t manage to be in the same place at the same time for more than twenty seconds.
