“You’re sweet. We need to start doin’ things you like,” he said, fatigue edged his tone.

“We do what I like all the time, tonight for example.” My brows wiggled as best they could based on my position. “Your ass sore?”

“A little. In a good way. I get why you stayed on me to try. It’s different than bein’ on top. It felt like my entire body was in on the orgasm.”

He was right. I’m glad he liked it. I wanted us to be together in every way.

“I’m being invited out more since the mock trial,” I murmured, glad to finally have some friends.

“Go, you don’t have to babysit me,” Beau said.

“No, I want you to come with me sometime. You might like some of them. Maybe we’d get some couple friends.”

Beau looked doubtful even if he didn’t say the words aloud.

“I’ve been thinking…”

Beau interrupted me. “When aren’t you thinkin’, plannin’, strategizin’ somethin’?”

Okay, valid point, but I didn’t need to give Beau the win aloud. “We could move somewhere along the coast of Texas. I could drive into Houston to work. Maybe you start the charter service you wanted to.”

Beau shook his head, his facial expression changed again. “I need time before I go back there. I heard my grandparents’ house was torn down.”

Oh no, I’d taken a conversational wrong turn. I didn’t want him to be sad tonight. I reached for his cheek as I murmured my apology. “We could do it anywhere, I’m sure. Maybe at the cape or Coronado or Miami,” I said. “I think we’d like Miami.”

A yawn slipped from Beau. “Probably. It’s hot there. I need some sleep; I got lost in lookin’. Can we continue this tomorrow, if you want?”

“Sure. Go to sleep. I’m going to lay here looking at you this time. Score of one to ten, did you like bottoming,” I asked.

“I’ll give it a nine to leave room for whatever else you have planned for us.” A small grin lifted the corners of his mouth. “Do you want me to stay awake?”

“No, go to sleep. I’ll probably study,” I said. He gave an immediate nod and closed his eyes.

I didn’t know happiness like this existed. At least I’d never seen or heard of it. I reached for his cheek again. He turned to his belly, lying flat with his face still to me. His warm body sidled up against my side. “Thank you.”

“For what?” I asked.

“Everything.” Sleep tugged him under. I’d have to remember to give my appreciation in the morning. I reached for a coursebook on my side’s nightstand, lifting my back against the headboard. Beau’s body adjusted until he was flush against my hip and leg.

Yeah, he had nothing to be thankful for. The gratitude was all mine. I loved him more and more each day that passed. Apparently love was in fact immeasurable, not quantifiable. Who knew?

I refocused on the book in my lap, needing to pay closer attention to my studies. A damned hard feat with Beau here with me. What an enchanting thought to think we’d be just this happy forever.

Three Months Later

Late Spring

The beep of the alarm system at the front door signaled I was finally home.

“Hello,” I called loudly throughout the house, taking a quick peek into Dash’s gorgeous office where he never sat anymore. Something about the boundaries I gave him to study kept him out of the room. I guess he wanted me to bother him more.

“Hey, I’m in here,” Dash said from the kitchen. With his review materials spread out across the table, he claimed the setting was cozy. The best spot in the house to work from. I didn’t see it. But he managed to shut out the world, buckle down, and tackle the mountainous weekly reading assignments and everything else he had to do. It was so much work, all of the time.

I doubted his theory on the kitchen table’s magical study powers. I didn’t know why he chose possible time with me over the highly decorated office, but he did, and I happily obliged. Making sure I bothered him at least once on the hour, sometimes more if I remembered to fit it in.

Head over heels didn’t begin to describe me. I cherished every moment. Last night, Dash read aloud from one of his advanced textbooks. His sharp mind challenged me to level up my comprehension, picking up the subtlety in his use of language and reason.

“How was your day?” he asked.

Our daily rhythm included him rounding the table to deliver a quick peck. There were rules there too. The kiss had to last at least six seconds, which was enough time to add a slip of tongue.

Dallas had moved into spring and was edging toward a hot summer. The temps outside, where I spent all of my day, were getting warmer. The smell of sweat on my body was turning from musky, the way Dash liked, to straight up yuck. I needed to bathe before we began our extensive greetings upon my return.
