Her fear of the unknown overcame her embarrassment though, and she plastered herself against him.

Sometimes, knowing too much can be a frikking curse. The only information spinning through Beth’s mind right now were motorcycle accident statistics. Thanks to a horror report she’d had to read while working on that last insurance brochure.

Not very comforting.

Gideon, who had deliberately lurched the bike to achieve this very result, was happily aware of her slight weight against his back. He reached down and patted Beth’s tightly-linked hands reassuringly before pulling away smoothly. He enjoyed the feel of her warmth against his back, as well as the frantically tight hold of her arms around his waist. He sped up slightly and grinned when she managed, against all odds, to cling even tighter.

But he knew he was being a prick and eased up on the speed, wanting her to enjoy the experience.

It was a beautiful clear day and he took Phillip Kgosana Drive—even though it was out of their way—hoping that she would appreciate the panoramic view of the city from the mountain road.

He could feel her relaxing by degrees, her arms eased their stranglehold and her fists unclenched. He felt her small hands unconsciously seeking his warmth, and nearly sent them over the side of the road when those hands burrowed beneath his jacket, hoodie, and tank to the naked flesh beneath.

He very much doubted she realized exactly where her hands had found a home. She couldn’t possibly know she was touching his bare flesh because of her gloves but damn it, he knew!

The soft tickle of the wool on the sensitive flesh of his abdomen had him groaning quietly. His muscles bunched beneath her touch and—worse—the throb of the engine between his thighs combined with the feel of her hands on his skin were resulting in a fucking monstrous hard-on.

He was tempted to turn around, take her home, and lay her down on the first available horizontal surface—hell vertical would do—and fuck her brains out.

Only they didn’t do that anymore. So he mentally instructed Hugh G to fucking behave and kept his focus on the road.

The restaurant he was taking her to was a mere five-minute ride from where they lived, but he’d gone on a round trip almost right into Cape Town—adding an extra ten minutes to their journey—and by the time he parked the bike in front of the restaurant, he was wound up so tight he could barely stand upright after dismounting the bike. But seeing Beth’s beaming face when she yanked off her helmet made the entire painful experience worth it.

“That was fantastic,” she said, her hair a wild mess and her eyes alight with excitement. “I can’t wait for the ride home!”

God help him… neither could he.

Gideon stared at the woman sitting so innocently across the table from him. She was perusing the menu thoughtfully, looking for all the world like butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth, when Gideon had been the recipient of her shameless cock-teasing for the last two nights. Last night had been pretty much a repeat of the night before. Another slow, sultry, half-striptease before the curtains had been unceremoniously shut in his face.

Another night of Gideon jerking off in the shower. Another night of hot sexy dreams wherein he did unspeakably erotic things to her sexy body and mouth. Another morning of waking up with a straining hard-on and that wouldn’t even go down in an icy cold shower.

Now here she sat, the reason for his discomfort, the object of all his unfulfilled yearnings and desires.

“I’ve never been here before,” she said, looking around the garden café he’d brought her to. It was small place with great food and a fresh, country cottage feel.

“I come here to work sometimes,” he told her.

She dropped her chin in her hand and perused her surroundings with lively curiosity.

“That’s one of yours,” she said. He followed her gaze to the wall behind them. A small, framed ink and watercolor sketch of the weathered exterior of the restaurant, took pride of place in the middle of the wall. Surrounded by framed pressed flowers and leaves.

“How do you know that?” He had signed the work, but it was a tiny, barely legible scrawl hidden in the lower right corner of the page. “It’s very different from the ones you saw at my house that day.”

“Yeah, no nudes or cat suits.” She pursed her lips and tilted her head assessingly, never taking her eyes off the simple sketch. “I don’t know, something about it reminds me of the little I’ve seen of your work. Something unique and one hundred percent you. Maybe the bold, confident lines.”

Gideon twisted his neck to eye the sketch skeptically.

“It’s just a simple sketch of a building. Nothing earth-shattering. Generic as fuck. Anybody could have done it.”

“Only anyone didn’t do it. You did. Right?”
