“I don’t know that I will, but thank you for the vote of confidence.” Roe chuckled, trying to lighten the mood.

“You will,” Holden insisted. “You’re too good a man not to.”

Roe’s pulse sped up. Jesus, this fucking guy. What was it about him that made Roe’s world spin? He drummed his fingers on the tabletop, trying to think of the right thing to say. He and Holden wanted different things, but he didn’t want them to stop this. He liked it too much. “Right now, I’m just enjoyin’ where I’m at. There’s a handsome man who promised to make me come so hard my brain exploded.”

“Mush. I said turned to mush, and I will. We eat lunch, and then you take me home and I’ll treat you right.”

Roe’s cock began to fill, his skin heating. “We don’t have to eat, do we?”

Holden let out a loud laugh that drew some attention from others, but Roe didn’t care. He joined in, soaking this up, letting himself have this time with Holden.

“Mm-hmm, look at the two of you, laughing and having a good ole time. It’s good to see you enjoying yourself, Roe.” Evie set their plates down in front of them.

“It’s good to enjoy myself like this,” he found himself saying.

They ate their food, Holden raving about how good it was as they both cleaned their plates. Roe was surprised when Holden let him pay. People watched them as they left together, so there would definitely be talk, but he didn’t fucking care. He and Holden were friends. That was all any of them needed to know.

“You know, it got my dick a little hard when we were in there talking about what I want to do to you,” Holden said, and Roe cursed.

“Shit. Me too. I’ll drive fast.”

They shared another round of laughter. Christ, Roe liked to laugh with Holden.

He cut two minutes off the driving time, pulling into the driveway, ready to watch his dick slip between Holden’s lips. Jesus, he hadn’t had someone to fuck around with at home since…well, since Rich. Roe planned to take the rest of this summer with Holden and enjoy the hell out of it.

Just as he turned the truck off, ready to say something dirty and sexy to Holden, Roe saw a frown crease his lips. He looked over at the house in time to see Wyatt running his way.

“Shit,” he cursed softly. “I didn’t know he was coming today.” Because of course Wyatt would be there when Roe was about to get head from a gorgeous man.

Holden chuckled. “It is what it is. We have time.”

“Easy for you to say. It hasn’t been as long for you as it’s been for me.” Still, Roe got out of the truck. What else could he do? “Hey, buddy,” he said to Wyatt.

“I had Billy’s dad bring me here instead of Mom’s after we hung out. What are you guys doing?”

“I brought Holden to the farm. He’s gonna be doing some work for Mema and your granddaddy.”

“Oh, cool. Do you think we can go for a ride? I wanted to take the bikes out, but I know I’m not allowed if you’re not home.”

Roe nodded. If he didn’t get to come, he should at least get some kind of adrenaline rush. “Sure. You and Sean wanna go?” he asked Holden.

“Marilee’s car’s gone, so I assume Sean is out with her.”

“Yeah, I knocked. He’s not there,” Wyatt added.

“I’ll leave the two of you to it. Have fun out there.” Holden gave them a wave, turned, and headed for the cabin.

Damn. He didn’t want Holden to go.

CHAPTER TWENTY

Holden

Life got in the way entirely too much over the next week. Either Wyatt was with Roe—Wyatt seemed to be at the house more and more lately—or Sean wanted to spend time with Holden, or there was an emergency at work Roe had to take care of, or a whole list of other things. If Holden believed in those kinds of things, he would think the universe was conspiring to keep him from blowing Roe, which was a shame because Holden loved sucking cock and was good at it.

He’d been working at Covington Acres every day. It felt good to be active, good to sweat and build and feel like he was accomplishing something. And it felt good to do something nice for Roe’s family because something nice for them meant something nice for Roe.

Plus, Sean had come with him every day. He seemed to enjoy it, and the kid was good. He had an eye for measurements, and even though he was a typical, messy thirteen-year-old boy, he was a perfectionist when it came to work like this, similar to how Holden was. It filled him with a sense of pride, teaching Sean, watching him grow and learn, ask questions and thrive.
