“Did I push you—”

“No. You didn’t. I just didn’t know…but now I do. I want to bake. I’m still going to get a degree. David and I looked up information on becoming a pastry chef. I want to go to culinary school. He even said he would help pay—”

“This was his idea?” she cut me off.

“No, I mean, he asked me about it, but he didn’t push me. He would never do that.”

“But he wants to pay for you to go to school? So you’re never home anymore, and you suddenly want to drop out of college and change your plans for the future. He was the one who mentioned it, and he wants to pay for it, but this is your idea and not his?”

I rolled my eyes. “Why would he do something like that? Why would his evil plan for me be to bake—something I’ve always loved—oh, and to help me pay for it.”

“So you’re indebted to him!”

“He wouldn’t do that! I wish you would just get to know him. Ian and I, we’re going to meet David’s mom and sister tomorrow. I would love for you to spend more time with us. David takes good care of me.” I looked down at the table. “I love him.”

“What about the other boy?”

“I love him too,” I admitted.

“Do you hear yourself? I love you, Jordan, you know that, but I can’t say I approve of your decisions lately. It’s one thing to…do whatever it is you’re doing with two men, but to think you love them both? What, you’re going to be one big happy family together? Not only that, but you suddenly want to stop following the dream you’ve had your whole life, something you’ve been slowly working toward, so he can pay for you to do something else? None of that sounds odd to you?”

I got what she was saying, I did. It all sounded far-fetched, unrealistic, and maybe it was. Maybe I was foolish to think it would work with three of us and that there wouldn’t be problems with us, or with my schooling, but… “I just want to be happy. They make me happy. And maybe it won’t work, and maybe I’ll regret dropping out of school and doing something else, but I have to try. It feels right. You’ve raised me to be strong, to take what I want, and this is what I’m doing, Granny. This is what I want.”

She sighed. “I already lost my daughter. I don’t want to lose you too.”

“You won’t. Not ever. We’re like the Golden Girls, only better.”

“It doesn’t get better than them,” she teased.

“Granny, you’ve always said you just want me happy. That’s what I’m trying to do.”

“Your mom said she was happy too. That’s what she told me. She changed her whole life for someone else, and I can’t say I don’t feel like you’re doing the same damn thing, Jordan. I can’t pretend to be happy about this. When you mold yourself into becoming what someone else wants, you lose yourself.”

I hated that I was letting her down, hated that she had such a distorted view of David. “That’s not what’s happening. I promise.”

The look on her face said she didn’t believe me.

CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE

David

“Lock him up, puppy,” I told Ian as I pulled my underwear on. The three of us had just gotten out of the shower, and we were getting ready to head to Mom and Zoey’s.

“I can’t believe you wear this thing on your dick.” Ian knelt in front of Jordan and began to lock the cage around him. It wasn’t something we played around with too often, but I liked the idea of him being uncomfortable for me and maybe a little humiliated that he was meeting my family with his cock trapped behind metal.

“Don’t knock it till you try it, sugar lips, but on the real, I can’t believe I’m wearing this while I’m meeting David’s mom.”

“No shit.” Ian chuckled and leaned in to kiss Jordan’s stomach. “All done.” He stood, and Jordan stepped closer and nuzzled his neck. Ian palmed the back of Jordan’s head, hair through his fingers, tugging him closer so they could kiss.

It was beautiful. I loved watching my boys together. And it was especially needed today. They were both nervous about going home with me. The family thing was difficult for Ian because he never felt like he had one. With Jordan…he’d been more introspective lately. His grandma didn’t like me, which he tried to assure me wasn’t true, and I guessed she didn’t know me well enough to truly form an opinion, but she didn’t want me with her grandson. I didn’t want to cause a rift between them, but I also wasn’t going to walk away from my boy unless it was what he wanted. It was something we had to figure out how to deal with, but Jordan didn’t want to talk about it. He said it was fine, and I was trying to trust him.
