David talked about med school and shared stories about Aidan, which made us laugh. I didn’t have school or family to talk about, and really, no true friends other than the two of them and Finley, because even though I hung out with people, I never let myself get close to them.

David asked me about working on houses, though, and I talked to him some about that. “Stuff like that comes naturally to me. If there’s something I don’t know, I can watch a video and catch on quickly.”

“Why don’t you work construction?” Jordan asked.

Because I liked that kind of work. I liked it, and I was afraid if I did it and then lost it, it would hurt. “No reason.”

“Don’t lie,” David said softly. “It’s okay if you don’t want to tell us, but please don’t lie. You don’t owe us any detail you don’t want to share.”

Christ. “How the fuck do you do that?”

“I’m good.” He winked.

“He also doesn’t lack for confidence,” Jordan added, and all three of us laughed before David swatted his leg.

“And you’re a brat.”

“Duh.” Jordan shrugged.

Something about the exchange opened me up, broke a hole in my walls. “Because I don’t want to lose it,” I admitted. “If I like it and they don’t think I’m good or whatever…”

“Ian…” Jordan reached over and laced his fingers with mine.

I let him.

I wanted it.

Maybe needed it.

“We’ll figure it out, pup.”

I didn’t know what David could do about it, but I still nodded, somehow believing him. Believing both of them, and maybe, that somehow made me believe in myself a little too.

CHAPTER TWENTY

Jordan

Okay, so I wasn’t usually overly sentimental or anything, but I was pretty sure this was the best day of my life. Sure, my ass was a little sore, but it was the kind of ache I welcomed. It reminded me of what we’d done, that I’d had both Daddy and Ian inside me, which, honestly, was exactly where I wanted them—maybe both of them at once, one day.

Even the enema scene in the bathroom, not something I’d ever considered doing in front of someone, brought us closer. It was as if this invisible force was fusing us together in a way I never experienced before.

It wasn’t just the sex either. I liked them meeting Granny, even though she was unsure about David—she would change her mind when she saw how great he was. I liked the way we joked on the drive up, and now the three of us out to dinner. I liked that Ian let me hold his hand when he was feeling down and that David was always making sure we were okay or thinking of a way to help with problems, the way he’d told Ian we would figure it out. I knew we would—or David would—and he would find a way to make us all a part of it.

After dinner David said, “Let’s go for a walk.”

“Yes, Sir,” Ian replied easily, and that made me smile. I laced our fingers together again as we walked along the sidewalk. There were people out and about, sharing meals at outdoor tables at cafés. Shops and a candy store and antiques.

“I’ve never been up here before,” I said.

“Really?” David asked.

“I haven’t either,” Ian replied.

“We’ll have to come up more often, then. It’s a nice escape. I always knew I wanted a house in the mountains.”

I could understand that. We were only two hours from LA, but it felt like we were in a different world.

I was surprised at how lively it was, but I figured with it being summer, things were more vivacious than they would otherwise be. I kept my hand in Ian’s as we explored. Some shops were closed, but we peeked in all the ones open. David never rushed us, and even Ian seemed to be enjoying it.

In the distance, I could hear the soft beat of music. “What’s that, Daddy?” The moniker rolled off my tongue so easily already. I didn’t feel silly for calling David my Daddy. It was what he was to me.

“There’s a park not far. I think they do summer concerts and things there.”

“Can we go?” I asked. “You want to go, don’t you?” I turned to Ian.

He smiled. “Sure.”

“Let’s go, then,” David said.

We followed the music to a large, open, green space. A stage was set not far away, and a band was playing, a female singer at a piano, accompanied by a guitarist and a drummer. I couldn’t even say exactly what style of music it was, but she had this sexy, smoky kind of voice I liked.

Hundreds of people were listening, some standing, some dancing, others sitting in the grass. David motioned toward a free area, and we followed him. He sat down in the grass, with his legs out in front of him. I lay down, tugging Ian with me. I put my head on David’s lap, and Ian watched as if unsure what to do.
