“I was wrong,” he says as he looks at his old friend. “Clearly, I was wrong.”

The boys all perk up.

“What is it?” I ask and then I hear them a few seconds later—police sirens. They’re coming this way.

“You’re free to go,” Jackson says to Colin. “But we’ll be checking up on you soon.”

“Thank you,” Colin says with a grateful look. “And I’m sorry for… everything.”

Jackson nods and then turns to Remy. “You going home with her?”

“Oui, mon ami,” Remy says with a grin. “Can I buy you teddy bears dinner sometime to make up for this?”

Grayson and Ryker grumble as they shuffle to their car. “Bring your wallet, asshole,” Grayson says. “I’m bringing my appetite.”

“Better make it somewhere nice,” Ryker says. “And by nice, I mean fucking expensive as shit.”

I can’t help but smile as they get into their car. They’re pissed, but it looks like they’ll forgive my man.

Jackson opens the driver’s door and hesitates. He looks right at Remy and exhales. “Good job, Beaufort.”

Remy is beaming as his team leader gets in the car and they peel away.

“We should go too,” Colin says as the sirens get louder.

“We’ll come back and get our stuff another time,” Valerie says as they race with Nathan to her car. They look so happy, smiling nonstop as they rush in and drive away.

Remy turns to me with a grin. “Ready, mon cœur?”

I’d go anywhere with this man.

“Absolutely!”

“Yeah, get off my property,” Mr. Barton says as he steps out the front door with a nasty look.

I grin as I turn the hose on and spray him in the face too.

We run to my smashed-up car, hop in, and drive away with permanent smiles on our faces.

My mate and I make it onto the highway without the cops catching up to us.

We ride back home with the wind in our hair and a lightness in our hearts.

It was a horrible thing that happened to Remy’s pack, but I think he’s finally put it behind him now. He’s no longer bitter or resentful. He looks like he’s at peace and finally ready to move on to a happier life.

I’m so happy I get to be there and experience it by his side.

Everything should be perfect, but I can’t help feeling like there’s one thing missing.

My hand darts up and touches the tingling spot on my neck.

It’s probably nothing…

Chapter Ten

Adalynn

I’m staying at Remy’s house since I lent my townhouse to Colin, Valerie, and Nathan. Colin’s apartment is a small one-bedroom, so my place was much better for them. I have a pull-out in my spare room, so Nathan can get his own bedroom and his parents can have some privacy, doing whatever newly-together mates do.

I’m so thrilled for my brother. It really did work out for him. He has his mate, his son, and his bear is behaving once again. I’ve never seen him look so happy.

It’s been a big weight off my shoulders as well. I love that I don’t have to worry about him and I can focus on my new mate and our exciting future.

Speaking of which, I’m going to go find my newly-together mate for a little fun…

It’s only been three days of living with Remy at his place in Montana, but it’s been incredible. I don’t think we’ve left his bedroom for more than a quick snack and the occasional shower.

I step out of the shower, quickly get ready, put on a cute dress, and then walk through the house, looking for Remy. My body is constantly craving him. It’s unreal. We can do it all night and when I wake up in the morning, I’m dying for more.

This is the first shower he’s let me have without him sneaking in and taking me against the tiles.

When I find him in the garage, I see why.

“What’s wrong?” I gasp when I see him hunched in the corner. He looks like Colin when he was struggling to fight his bear and trying to hold him back from taking over.

Remy’s back is big and bulky—it always is, but this is unnaturally large. His hands are curled up with long black claws piercing his fingertips and there’s a look of pure torment on his face as he looks up at me.

His eyes… they’re shining a golden color. They don’t look human…

“Are you…” I whisper as I hurry over. “Turning feral?”

Maybe I’m not his mate. I knew this was too good to be true… What if there was a big mistake and I’m not his mate? I mean, why else would he be going feral unless I’m not really his mate?

“No,” he says with a fierce shake of his head. “It’s not that, mon cœur.”

I drop to my knees in front of him and cup his face. He doesn’t want me to see him like this, but I force his face up until those golden eyes are on me.
