“Pleasure,” my mother whispered.

“That’s it!” I called out as Lincoln covered her mouth. “It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

Lincoln shook it then stood. “Blayze is going to be over the moon. I apologize now for whatever comes out of that boy’s mouth.”

My father let out a big laugh. “He’s Brock’s son. Nothing will surprise me.”

“It’s great seeing you, Jeff and Callie. How was the trip?” Lincoln asked as she motioned for us to come inside.

“It was great. Georgiana loved Yellowstone. I’m so glad we decided to make it a road trip,” my mother stated.

We walked into the house and I looked everywhere, my eyes taking it all in. The house was so pretty, with lots of natural wood. A loud noise came from another room, and a boy about my age appeared.

He skidded to a stop in front of us. Behind him was a man holding a little girl.

“Brock, it’s so good seeing you,” Daddy said as he shook the other man’s hand.

The little boy smiled at me then looked up at my mother. He tipped his cowboy hat. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, ma’am.”

Smiling, my mother replied, “The pleasure is all mine, young man.”

He tilted his head up to look at her. “My name is Blayze. You’re real pretty. Would you like to give me your number, so we could maybe have dinner?”

Blayze’s dad, Brock, put his hand on his son’s neck and gently pulled him back a few steps while my father and mother both laughed.

“I’m so sorry, Callie and Jeff—he’s a bit of a flirt.” Brock glanced down at Blayze and frowned before looking back at my parents and me.

My father laughed. “Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, Brock.”

My mother’s smile grew wider as she bent down and looked at Blayze. “As tempting as that is, I’m afraid I’m already married.” She pointed back to my father.

With a shrug, Blayze said, “If things don’t work out, you know where I am.”

Everyone laughed—well, everyone except me. He was a boy! Asking my mother on a date.

Brock pulled him back a bit more and said, “Say hello to Georgiana, Blayze.”

Blayze turned and looked at me and smiled. I smiled back. “Hi, Georgiana. Do you like to ride horses?”

I glanced up at my parents and then back at Blayze. “I love horses.”

He reached for my hand and gave it a tug. “Come on, I’ll take you to the barn. Uncle Ty is out there.”

“May I please go?” I asked my mother.

“Yes, but not for long!” she called out as Blayze began pulling me away.

He stopped and turned back to look at my mother, tipping his hat once more. “Ma’am.”

Then he started to pull me out of the room. Before we left, I heard my father say,

“You’re going to have your hands full with that little cowboy, Brock.”

Brock sighed, “Tell me about it.”

I threw the covers off me and dragged myself out of bed and into the shower. Brock would be here soon to bring me back to the Shaw ranch, so I needed to get my act together. After a trip to the hotel bar last night and one-too-many drinks, my head was pounding and I felt foggy. I needed to be clearheaded when I saw Blayze. If I even saw him. He’d probably hid the moment he heard I was here, and a part of me couldn’t blame him. My stomach lurched as I thought about the terrible lie I had told him.

It wasn’t like I was afraid to see him. I simply wasn’t thrilled about it. The boy whom I had become fast friends with at ten years old had quickly become the young man I’d had a big crush on. And when Blayze had shown interest in me when I was sixteen and he was almost seventeen, and I’d found myself behind the barn with him, I knew I was in love. Or what my young mind thought was love. And I thought for sure he felt the same way about me. Well, up until I clearly hurt him, and he turned around and hurt me right back.

I stepped into the hot shower and moaned when the heat of the water covered my skin. The moment I shut my eyes, I swore I felt his hands on my body. His warm breath hitting my ear as he whispered, “May I touch you, Georgie?”

I moved my hand up to my lips where I thought I could still feel the tingle of Blayze’s lips pressed to mine even to this day. I had been ready for him to make me his. I’d been ready to give Blayze my virginity. I had wanted him to have it, because I’d thought he was the one.

I snapped my eyes open and shook my head. “What are you doing?”

Grabbing the small tube of shampoo, I quickly washed and then conditioned my hair before soaping up and rinsing off. I stepped out of the shower and heard my phone go off.
