“What a beautiful view. Goodness. A view of the pond and a view of the mountains. You poor thing, how do you handle living here?”

Blayze chuckled. “The bathroom’s in here.”

I followed him into a beautiful bathroom that looked like it could be in a mountain spa. His and her cabinets matched the kitchen cabinets. A large oval tub was tucked under another picture window with yet another stunning view. The shower was magnificent and boasted a rock floor with dark tile on the walls. I nearly groaned when I saw the rain-head shower with jets on the side, yearning to stand under it and close my eyes.

“Wow.”

It was all I could say. As I turned to walk out, I glanced at the counter and saw only one toothbrush. It also appeared that only one of the sinks was being used. Why I cared was beyond me. I was only here for a month, and I had a job to do. Getting sidetracked by Blayze’s personal life was not going to happen. Or, at least, I had to tell myself that.

“There are two guest bedrooms upstairs, each with its own bathroom,” Blayze said. “There’s also a small theater room with six chairs and a projector and screen. It’s fun to watch football games and such up there. Feel free to use it if you want to watch a movie or something. During this time of year we usually have a Halloween marathon.”

“We?”

“Me, Morgan, Hunter, and the rest of the Shaw cousins. It’s been a tradition for as long as I can remember. We used to do it at Grams and Grandpa’s house, but once I moved in, we moved the party over here.”

“Sounds like fun,” I said.

Smiling, I allowed myself to really look at Blayze. The dimple, his blue eyes that now reminded me of ice blue glaciers that a girl could easily get lost in. There was something different about his eyes. I simply couldn’t put my finger on it.

I followed Blayze back through the house and to a set of stairs. Large timber logs held up the second floor and added a rustic feel to the home. The large plank wood floors also contributed to the charm. They looked repurposed, and I wanted to ask Blayze if they were.

“You can take whichever room you want,” Blayze said as he picked up my suitcases and headed up the stairs. The railing was black wrought iron. It looked elegant but was a simple pattern that went perfectly with the feel of the house.

The first bedroom had the same wood walls as Blayze’s room. There was a queen-size bed with what looked to be an antique bedframe and matching dresser. The other room had a completely opposite feel than the rest of the house. The walls were plank wood, but they were painted in a soft sage green. A chandelier light fixture—that I was positive was antique—hung in the middle of the room. A four-poster bed sat underneath. A beautiful swath of white linen fabric hung around the frame and draped down each leg to pile loosely on the floor, giving the room a feminine feel.

I made my way over to the bathroom and gasped when I stepped inside. It was decorated in black and white. The flooring was an old-fashioned tile. A claw-foot tub was perched under a breathtaking picture window, and a large, walk-in shower that had the same features as the one in Blayze’s bathroom was in the far corner. A beautiful antique dresser had been converted into a cabinet and held a stunning black stone sink bowl.

“Jesus, who designed this bedroom and bathroom?”

Blayze smiled as he leaned against the doorjamb. “Rose Marie. I gave her free rein on one room in the house. She stops by every so often to do what she calls a ‘refresh.’ She can’t touch my bedroom, but she usually changes out the quilt and towels in this bedroom and bath and the other one. She also puts out most of the decorations.”

Ahh…so that explained the fall décor. “And here I thought you were just in touch with your feminine side.”

He threw his head back and laughed. “Hardly. Morgan likes to stay here when she’s home from school as well. I think they both just like being away from their folks. This is a beautiful room.”

“Rose Marie did an amazing job. She has a talent for design like your mom.”

He nodded. “That she does.”

“Would you mind if I picked this room? I just love the feel of it. It’s comfortable and cozy. I mean, your room is too…”

As my voice trailed off, Blayze rose one brow. I quickly put up my hands. “Not that I was saying I wanted to stay in your room. I was simply saying that it’s cozy. Nice. Comfortable. I mean…”
