“Do I look like one of those?”

“Cash daddies don’t have any kind of look. They can look like anyone.”

“Cash daddies?? No, I don’t ‘get off’ on it.”

“But you like me spending your money?”

“I like you having the experience of buying something in a store.”

“Instead of stealing?”

“And of having clothes,” he goes on like he didn’t hear me. “Options of clothes for you to own and keep and wear.”

“Clothes I will pay for,” I insist.

“I just want you to feel more human. To get all of your confidence back. I love watching you transform from what you were Friday to … what you’re meant to be. Whether Seany or Sean.” He smiles. “I like watching you.”

My towel chooses this moment to gently unravel itself and drop to the floor.

Standing at the mirror naked, I shrug as I continue to comb my hair. “You said you like watching me. Go ahead.”

Cooper has already averted his eyes.

I peer at him. “It’s kind of adorable, you looking away like that.”

“Can you put your towel back on, please?”

“Seriously? We’ve had sex. You’ve done a hell of a lot more than just look at all this.”

“Seany …”

“It’s Sean,” I remind him, “and fine, I’ll go ahead and put my towel back on, if it bothers you so damned much.”

“Thank you.” He waits. “Is it on?”

“Yep.”

He looks at me again.

The towel is still very much on the floor, and I am still very much naked. “I lied,” I answer playfully, grinning.

He looks away again with a sigh. “Sean …”

“Look, if you want me to live with you, and you want to take care of me so badly …” I toss the comb onto the counter and saunter right up to him. “You’re gonna have to deal with the fact that I might wanna be naked around you from time to time. Hey, look at me.”

Coop looks me in the eyes.

Only the eyes.

“Touch me.”

He squints. “What?”

“Put your hands on me. Touch me.”

“Sean …”

“I give you permission. Is that what you want? I give you permission to put your hands on my body.” As soon as he starts to protest, I slap a finger to his lips. “Coop, this is the other side of that promise, y’know.”

His eyebrows pull together. “Promise …?” he murmurs, his lips moving under my finger.

“Yeah. The one I made, and the one you made. You told me to keep my doors open. I told you not to pity me. And part of not pitying me is treating me like anyone else. Not some boy or fragile kid. Not some dudesel in distress.”

“Dudesel??”

“Why don’t you keep your doors open, too?” I take his hands and pull them around my body. “I think a man like you needs to practice what he preaches. You should keep your doors open, too.” I slide his hands further down my back—landing them right on my bare ass. “Wide open.”

Coop frowns. “You’re trouble, Sean, you know that?”

“I’m getting hard.”

“I know. I can feel it against my—”

“Why do you sound so tense, Coop? Does your job got you all stressed out? Put your hand on my dick. I’ll put my hand on yours. Maybe we can relieve all the weird tension you’re keeping in your body before we go out tonight.”

“Seany …”

“There you go, slipping up with my name again.” I put my hand between his legs and take a big fistful of Cooper. He grunts and scrunches up his face. “Mmm, feels like I’m not the only one.” His eyes rock back as I massage him. “I think I might start calling you Coopy every time you slip.”

His fingers slowly start to curl around my ass cheeks.

I’m winning this arm wrestle, bit by bit.

I lean into his ear, bringing my lips close. “Just give in.” I give his earlobe a little lick. “I know you wanna.”

For a moment, I’ve got him.

I own him.

Then his hands drag up my back, reach my shoulders, and gently push me away. He smiles at my confused face. “I would be happy to stay in, have fun with you, and enjoy whatever mischief you’re trying to inspire here. But if we start, we’ll never leave the house, and you’ll miss out on making new friends, checking out the street fair, and—”

“We can do both,” I cut him off. “We can do it all.”

“One thing at a time. Pace yourself.”

“But I—”

His hand slides up to my hair, caressing it, then brings his lips to my forehead for a kiss. He smiles patiently at me. “I know you’re horny, Sean. You’re young and full of hot, pumping blood. I was your age once.”

“Please tell me you and I are not having a daddy-son talk when I’m standing in front of you, naked and hard.”

“This island has a way of giving you exactly what you ask for. And it will never run out of supply. It will satisfy you until you’re drowning in its shores.” He gently touches my cheek, stroking it with a thumb, as if wiping away tears that aren’t there. “It’s the best advice I can give, and you won’t know it for years. Pace yourself.”
