“He’s happy,” Charity said as we watched Houston get interviewed by the local news.

“Yeah, he is.”

“You’re both happy and ridiculously in love.”

“Yeah, we are.” I pumped my brows, and she rolled her eyes at me.

It was at least an hour before everything settled down. Houston had gone to the locker room with his team. Charity and I hung out with the family, shooting the shit as we waited for him, and then all of us went out to celebrate with Houston and his team.

I was lucky that I could be there with him, the game falling just right before I had to fly out for a game in New York the next day.

We ate a shit ton of pizza, teammates leaving one by one as champions.

“We’re so proud of you, Houston.” Connie hugged him as the group of us stood on the sidewalk, ready to go home.

“Thanks, Mom,” Houston replied.

“I’m so proud of you, Houston,” Garrett mocked playfully before Houston pulled him into a headlock and gave him a noogie.

“They’re ridiculous,” Ramsey said.

“That’s your man’s fault,” I teased.

When they separated, Dale gave Houston a “Good game, son,” while Connie pulled me into a hug.

“You look tired. Are you getting enough sleep?”

I bit my tongue before telling her I hoped not to get much sleep that night. We had a win to revel in. “I’m fine, Mama McRae,” I said. I loved that she cared. My own family and I were on better terms than we used to be. Mom and Caleb were trying to get over that bigoted shit that had been ingrained in their heads. Houston and I had been out twice to see them, and we spoke on the phone sometimes, but it wasn’t like it was with the McRaes. I knew my mom and brother still looked at me and Houston and thought there was something wrong with us or wished I was with a woman. His family loved us for who we were, loved me, and that shit meant something to me.

We all said our goodbyes, Houston and I walking to our apartment, which was close by. “You were so hot out there.”

“I was coaching.”

“Totally hot.” I pumped my brows, and he chuckled, throwing an arm over my shoulder. “You should give me a massage tonight to celebrate.”

“Shouldn’t it be the other way around?”

“No, because touching me is a reward, baby, and you deserve it.”

“You’re such a cocky son of a bitch. Is your ass on the menu?” He swatted it.

“For you? Always.”

“Hurry. Let’s go.”

We laughed, jogging to our apartment. We started stripping out of our clothes, and almost the second we fell into bed, I was riding Houston’s dick like he was a fucking bronco until he came deep inside of me.

“Fuck, that’s good,” I said, collapsing on top of him.

Houston wrapped an arm around me, kissing my sweaty hair. “I love you. Sometimes I can’t believe we’re here.”

“Awww,” I replied, but really, his words landed straight in my chest. “You’re being supersweet tonight. Will it always be like this when your team brings home the championship?”

“If you’re lucky,” he teased.

“I love you, too,” I replied. “I’ve never been more thankful for a delayed flight in my life.”

Houston chuckled, then sobered and said, “I was thinking about life after the NFL… This is your last season. If you want to keep playing, of course I support that, but—”

“Nope,” I replied. I fucking loved the game and always would, but I’d proved myself, and I was ready to be done.

“Okay…well, if you do, then we’re good, but if not, I was thinking…what if we started some kind of youth football program or camp, or fuck, I don’t know. Maybe it’s a dumb idea, but—”

“Fuck yes,” tumbled out of my mouth, heart racing. It wasn’t something I’d ever thought about before, but now that Houston mentioned it, I loved the idea. “We would fucking kill that.”

“We would,” he replied before rolling on top of me, pinning me to the bed. “You want to start a football camp with me?”

“I do.”

“I do, too.”

“I think we just got married. Where’s my ring, motherfucker?”

Houston laughed, his chest vibrating through to mine and making my heart beat faster. He buried his face in my neck, nipped at my ear, and said, “I would do that, too.”

“Yeah?” My hands trembled as I rubbed my hands up and down his back. Married to Houston. I liked the sound of that. “You got something to ask me, McRae?”

“I’ll surprise you.”

Before I could reply, he covered my mouth with his, and whatever the future held for us, I knew we would live every moment of it together.
