He’d not taken his condom off until she was in the tub. She ran her hands through the bubbles, watching him. He’d tied the condom up and threw it in the trash before turning toward her.

She didn’t complain as he climbed into the tub. There was more than enough room for the both of them.

“How are you feeling?”

“I’m fine.”

“You’re sure.”

She nodded. “Perfectly fine.” She was a little sore, but that was to be expected.

Max leaned forward, taking hold of her hand and locking their fingers together. She’d never held hands with a man before. He wasn’t in a rush to let go.

“I’d really wish you didn’t lie to me.”

“I’m not lying.”

“I know you’re sore.”

“How do you know?”

“I read about it. Some women feel a great deal of discomfort their first time. It’s to be expected. Some are lucky and don’t feel a thing. There was blood on the condom, Aria. I know you’ve got to be hurting a little bit.”

Now her cheeks had gone red. She was a little embarrassed that he’d done research over this. Why would he do research?

“I’m not hurting a whole lot. It’s not even like a stinging pain or anything like that. It just aches a little. That’s all. It’s not bad. Promise.”

“Please don’t lie to me again.”

“I just told you the truth.”

“I know you just did, but I meant before. I want to take care of you, and the only way to do that is to know what is going on in that crazy head of yours.”

“I’m confused.”

“What about?”

“This. You. You researched having sex with a virgin?”

“Yep, and believe me, I don’t know if I was ready to deflower you.”

This made her giggle. “You sound like one of those old romance books. Deflower.”

“You know what you gave me was very precious, right?”

“Max, it wasn’t that big of a deal. Maybe a couple of hundred years ago. A woman’s virginity was a big deal. Not now. Not anymore.”

“It is a big deal. It’s huge. Women can spend their entire lives remembering their first time because it can have a great deal of meaning attached to it.”

“Or it could be just sex? Women don’t always carry around this need to know every single little detail about their partner. I think you’re mistaking a lot of things.”

“Look at Dale and Molly,” he said.

“They don’t count. They have kids together and were sweethearts.”

“But Molly was never with anyone else. She was always in love with Dale and never moved on. What does that tell you?” he asked.

“She was a single mom, and a lot of guys don’t want to bring up another man’s kid,” she said. Even to her own ears she sounded incredibly cynical.

“You believe that?”

“I do.”

“Oh, come on.”

“What? It’s perfectly logical to think like that. You’re saying a girl is more inclined to remember and be influenced by her first-ever sexual partner?” she asked.

“Yes.”

“I don’t see it. I’m not going to be influenced by what happened here. It wasn’t that great.”

“Hey!”

She groaned. Covering her face with her hands. “I didn’t mean it like that. I mean … it hurt, okay? And it wasn’t just you. It wasn’t a great feeling at first. After a short time, it built up into something, but it wasn’t great. I wouldn’t want to remember it. I’m really not saying this right.”

“I actually get it,” Max said. “This was the risk I took when I said I’d take you.” He sighed. “It’s also why I’ve got the weekend.”

“You want a repeat?”

The sex had been … okay. She didn’t see what all the big fuss was about when it came to sex. Sure, the orgasm at the beginning was a lot of fun, but other than the pain, everything else had kind of sucked. She didn’t want to tell him that though. Max was actually incredibly sensitive, or maybe she was.

Her head was all over the place, and she couldn’t think properly.

He moved in the bath, and she let out a gasp as he was suddenly behind her, and the evidence of just how much he wanted to go again was pressed against her back. “What do you think?”

“I think you’re a guy and are always ready to go?”

“Or maybe you’ve given me a challenge and now I’ve got no choice but to prove to you, I want you. This isn’t just about sex, and it hasn’t been. I want to show you all those things you’ve been missing out on and craving.”

“You shouldn’t have looked at my computer.”

“I know that. Believe me, even as I was watching your history and seeing the kind of things you liked, I knew I should stop.” His hands went to her stomach, and she watched as he slowly drew them up, covering her tits. “Here’s the thing though, I didn’t want to stop.”

“Why didn’t you want to stop?” she asked.
