“I think you’d love to be one of those girls. I am more than sure you think about being one of them. And you have done for a long time now. But to be clear, sweetheart, it’s not going to happen.” He smirks.

Envy and rage simmer in my blood, and I’m tempted to slap him, but I’ve no right to react, because he doesn’t belong to me.

“Perhaps it’s time I find someone to take care of this ache,” I tell him as I run my fingers over my breasts.

I know I’m goading the monster that lies beneath his cool exterior. I’m taunting a sleeping fucking bear, but I haven’t felt more in control than I do right now.

The blue of his eyes turns dark, and there’s an underlying violence in his otherwise schooled expression. I half expect him to pin me down, right here on the seat, but the moment I think it, he moves so he’s sitting on the bench seat opposite me.

The air is thick with tension, sexual and violent, and I’ve never been more turned on than I am right now. Tarian may be an asshole, but I know one thing for sure, I’m not giving up on him. He may push, but I’ve a talent for pulling.

Game on, Calvert.

Game on.

CHAPTER 4

TARIAN

The wheels of the plane skid along the runway, and soon enough, we’re taxiing toward the private hangar. Flying in the Sovereign’s private jet means I can travel wherever I want and no one can track my movements.

Once the plane has come to a standstill, I turn to Grecia, who’s perched on a window seat, her gaze locked on the view outside. She’s ignored me the entire flight.

“Come on, Grecia, it’s time to go,” I tell her, but she stubbornly refuses to acknowledge my presence.

I know she’s nervous, and I know I shouldn’t have asked her to come with me, but I need her. I don’t admit shit like that often, because I like to think I don’t need anyone. But right now, if Grecia doesn’t help me, I’m going to be forced to hire a prostitute to play nice with a group of men who might decide to abuse her before slicing her open and disposing of her body.

I’m under no illusion about the majority of Crowns in the Sovereign. They are vile, evil men who get gratification from violence, but at least if Grecia and I go in there together, I can protect her and keep her safe. Maybe that’s a bad thing, though. I don’t want her getting hurt, but I also don’t want her to get the wrong impression and think of me as a hero; I’m so far from that.

I’m nothing like Ares or Etienne. They’re good guys who’d do anything for their women, but that’s not me. I’m not someone who’s caring and gives affection. I may not be as malevolent as Thane, but I’m far from a saint.

“Are you going to keep ignoring me?” I question Grecia, taking in her worried expression. She looks deathly pale.

I make my way over to where she’s seated and place my hands on the table in front of her. Leaning forward, I get right in her beautiful face and give her a smile. It’s not a caring one. With my eyes locked on hers, I hope she can see the threat in my glare.

“I was considering it,” she bites out while meeting my stare dead on.

I know she’s trying to goad me. The little minx enjoys the challenge. I flick my tongue out, lashing it against the piercing looped through my lower lip, and I bask in the way her wide hazel eyes fixate on my mouth.

“I don’t deal well with games, Grecia,” I inform her, lowering my voice so the attendant can’t hear me. “But if you’re trying to toy with me, just know I’m far better at playing this game than you’ll ever be.”

“Oh?” Her perfectly sculpted brow shoots up in question. “Is that meant to scare me, Tarian?”

Her voice hitches for a millisecond, and I know she thinks I didn’t notice, because her fiery gaze remains fixed on me. But the truth is, I hear everything she doesn’t say.

Her silence is louder than her words will ever be.

“Get your ass off the plane, Grecia.”

“Or what? You’re going to carry me off?”

Challenge fucking accepted.

I tug her off the seat and lift her over my shoulder. A squeal tumbles from her lips, which makes me smile as I walk toward the exit.

Even though the doorway is narrow, I manage to make it through with her hiked over my shoulder. I descend the steps, ignoring her cursing and demands for me to release her. Once on solid ground, I set her down only to be met with a slap so swift I didn’t see it coming.
