Her smile is cruel, punishing, she looks between me and Scarlett. “You both look great together, you know that?”

“Thank you?” Scarlett shares a confused look with me.

“But…” Addison grabs my arm. “I had to bring in another bridesmaid too, so I’m gonna just let them get to know each other real quick, so it’s not weird.”

Scarlett shrugs. “Whatever you want, it’s your day.”

“Oh, wait!” Addison laughs. “She’s right here!” She taps the woman, so that she turns around. She has jet-black hair, crystal blue eyes, and is clearly pregnant. “Thank you so much, Cassidy, for stepping in for me, and thank you for accepting my invitation last week on such short notice.”

I have no words.

I have nothing.

I can’t imagine the level of conniving it took for this to even happen.

I simply stare at her swelling belly and then look into her eyes.

Cassidy’s smile is sad. “Hi, Killian, it’s been a while.”

Adrian frowns. “You two already met?”

“Oh, yes. Crazy story!” Addison claps her hands together. “They were together for like years. Okay bye, gotta go add more lipstick. If you two could go to the back, the coordinator will tell you when to go down. Thanks again!”

She leaves.

And I’m left with my pregnant ex.

CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR

Scarlett

I don’t know what to do. I don’t know how to respond right now. His ex? And she’s pregnant?

Dustin sits down next to me, waiting for the wedding to start. He mumbles under his breath, “I’ve never seen her form.”

I try to get my own breathing under control, but both my rocks are off. One’s doing the wedding to my evil sister and the other’s talking to his pregnant ex. I have no paper bag and I’m just sitting.

I lock eyes with Adrian; his contain understanding but no anger. The music starts and he stares at me with intent and mouths. “It’s okay.”

I shake my head.

He nods his and smiles. “It’s okay.”

But it’s not okay.

The entire wedding procession is a blur to me, I see my dad give Addison to Rob and I watch in slow motion as they stand the way I stood a year ago.

I need a lifeline.

I need help.

I’m starting to inhale too much air. Killian’s up there standing next to the rest of the wedding party looking perfect, and I’m sitting here thinking I might die of a heart attack.

I try to slow my breathing when Dustin reaches his hand across and holds mine. “One, two, three, four, five,” he whispers. “Now exhale, one, two, three, four, five.” He breathes with me and whispers, “One more time. One, two, three…”

I follow every instruction as Adrian speaks.

Dustin squeezes my hand. “Also, just so you’re aware, Killian’s not that kind of guy. He would never be with someone then have a one-night stand, he never has. I can’t remember the last woman he was with until you.”

A tear slides down my cheek. “She’s pregnant.”

“Right, but that doesn’t mean anything.”

But it does.

Even if it doesn’t.

It’s a sad reminder.

Of my past, my future.

Of his.

I sit through the beginning of the ceremony holding Dustin’s hand in a solid grip that will probably cause bruises.

Adrian keeps looking over at me when the vows start.

Addison clears her throat and starts hers. “Rob, I knew you were mine the moment I met you. We were destined to be together. I’ll love you forever and never betray you, never leave you, never escape our holy vows. Amen.”

Rob smiles. “Addison, you’ve been the star in my eyes for an eternity, you’re glorious in the way you handle life and look at it as a journey you want to spend with not only me but the world. I can’t imagine my life without you.”

Mikey, one of the groomsmen, laughs under his breath. “Did last night.”

Clearly, he’s drunk.

My eyes widen. What is happening?

Rob laughs at him. “Ignore him.”

“Yeah, okay.” Mikey laughs again. “Go ahead, priest.”

“Wait.” Addison presses Rob’s chest with her fingertips. “Don’t tell me you actually went along with it!”

Rob sighs. “Can you let it go?”

“NO!”

“It’s not like you didn’t run off with Mikey the minute I ran off with Barbara. We said this is an open marriage, so leave it!”

My jaw drops.

Addison screeches. “You promised to wait until after the wedding!”

“And that didn’t stop you from thrusting your tongue down his throat!” Rob yells.

“I was drunk!” She wails. “And high on Benadryl.”

“High enough to do that?” He points at Mikey, good-looking guy, but definitely swaying to the music in his own head.

Addison tosses down her bouquet. “That’s it, this wedding is off!”

Holy Wattpad drama!

“Fine, I’ll just go find another bridesmaid.”

“And I’ll find another groomsman!”

“I’ll do it better!” Rob yells.

She gasps and slaps him across the face. “What we have is sacred!”

“That’s why I love you!” he yells again.

What is seriously happening here?

Dustin just shakes his head. “You see there’s a reason we have a form policy at the agency. Truly, it saves people from getting hit repeatedly, and in Rob’s case, from losing his balls altogether.”
