Not just free.

But seen.

His hypnotic green eyes lock me in place. They’re filled with secrets, and my tears start to dry. He tilts my chin with his fingers, such a light caress that I almost don’t feel it, or maybe I wouldn’t if I didn’t feel the burn in his gaze.

His brown messy hair is framed around his face like he hasn’t stopped running his fingers through it. Tattoos peek out from his neck and chest, all the way down his arms. Even in T-shirt and trousers, he looks like the rebel you never take home but secretly always wanted to just to prove to everyone in high school that you won.

He pulls the microphone away just briefly and whispers in my ear. “What happened? Anything I should be aware of? Like angry moms, dads who swear a lot and throw things? Or a groom that might attempt to castrate me?”

The music continues in the background.

I sigh and whisper back, telling the truth. “He cheated on me with my sister. I found out last night, so I decided to read his texts to her as my vows.”

Killian’s smile is wicked. It’s breathtaking… straight white teeth, two dimples, all wrapped up in mischief. “Downright savage of you.”

“They used our bed,” I say through clenched teeth. “And he was going to keep her on the side. Did I mention he compared me to our dog in his vows?”

Killian bursts out laughing, then runs a finger under my eye like I’ve missed more tears. “He’s an idiot.”

“Thanks for saying that, but after today, it’s going to be everywhere. I just don’t care anymore.”

“Well, then…” He looks over my head. “…if you’re already screwed. Let’s give them something to really talk about.”

I have no time to protest. One minute we’re having a casual conversation on stage in front of wedding guests, the next, his mouth slams into mine. He tastes like cinnamon gum. I reach for his biceps and hold on tight, then slide my arms up and around his neck. It’s not a complete mystery why. He’s hot, and he’s kissing me, making it better. I am in a complete trance when he slightly pulls back, smiles against my lips, and says, dangerously close to the microphone. “Bet he never kissed you like that.”

“No.” My body is shaking. “He didn’t.”

“He’s a dumbass,” Killian says, but not to me, to the entire room, with the mic pressed against the mouth I just kissed. “Guess that means it’s my lucky day… wedding dress girl. Wanna leave the party and have one of our own?”

My eyes widen. Does he mean it?

He leans in. “This will make him shit his pants, plus I promise, nothing kinky.”

“What if I want kinky?” I ask.

He lifts my chin and nips my lower lip. “What the bride wants, the bride fucking gets.”

CHAPTER THREE

Scarlett

I must be hearing things.

Did he just ask me to leave with him? And did I actually taunt him and basically beg him to take me to a hotel room?

My mouth gapes open like I can’t believe what I just said, or um, his response.

He shuts my mouth with his thumb and winks, then leans down and whispers again, “He’s right behind you. Choose your words carefully, because I’m sure it’s already being live streamed somewhere.” He bends closer, nuzzling into my neck, and presses a kiss there. “Your choice, always your choice, or I can stay and just mess with his head while I serenade you on stage for two straight hours.” His brow furrows. “Also, question, what right does he have to look so pissed? He’s doing this weird sucking his lips thing.”

I cover my mouth with my hand and laugh. “Oh, that’s his intimidating face.”

“You have got to be shitting me. Shit, his head might just pop right off. Think I could kick and yell goal? Blame it on the whole British boy in America?”

More chuckles and giggles slip out until I’m laughing so hard I probably look like a lunatic, the wetness of tears in my eyes long forgotten. “I think I like you.”

“I’m extremely likeable. Ask my fan groups.”

“Oh, and arrogant?”

“We’re the best type.” He winks, then brings the mic back up to his face again. “So, what do you say, Scarlett? Wanna take off? Go have some real fun and let the groom enjoy his time with your sister?” He grins. “Cheers to the happy couple! May you never go to a wedding and find out that your significant other’s been fucking with your family behind your back.” He shakes his head and then adds, “A dog in the vows, bruh? Really?”

Killian quickly releases me, grabs his guitar from around his neck, sets it down, and takes my hand.

I glance over my shoulder. The groomsmen, my sister, my mom, and basically the entire wedding party are standing on the right side of the stage. The only people who seem truly ready to kill me are Rob and his dad. My dad, however, lifts his glass toward me and nods.
