“Ah, stalk me, do you?”

“Yes, I have a shrine built in front of Chuck Norris’s tank at home, he too likes to worship. Sometimes I even light a candle, buy the last Rolling Stone, and cut out tiny little pictures. I like to call it my vision board. I asked Adrian to put holy water on it, but he refused.”

“Absolute killjoy.”

“You’re telling me.” I laugh. “Hey, thanks for sharing all that.”

He wraps his arms around me and kisses me again. I never want him to let go, but people like him are butterflies, they belong in the world to create tiny little flaps of their wings and tiny little moments for people to enjoy forever.

Cutting his wings seems wrong when he could fly so high.

“You’re not ordinary,” I finally say when we pull apart. “You also drive me crazy. But I like it.”

“You’re no sunshine either some days.”

“Sorry for yelling at you.”

“Sorry for yelling back.”

I wince. “I might yell more in the next day or so, just a good warning.”

“I’ll probably secretly like it.” He laughs.

My stomach growls instantly.

“Someone hungry?”

“I could use some cheese.” I wrinkle my nose. “I was going to have some of the glorious Dateline pasta but had sex instead.”

He grips his chest. “My heart bleeds.”

“It was very rough, I don’t know how I made it through getting pounded into a headboard like that and having the best orgasm of my life, remind me later to give you a high five or at least a solid pat on the ass.”

“I vote pat on the ass.”

I laugh again. God he’s so easy, like so easy to be with. I knew that the first day I met him. I know it even more now.

I’ll be fine though.

It’s always fine.

I have no choice.

He’ll go to LA, I’ll go back to Seattle, and everything will be… sadly normal. I’ll talk about great sex and think only of him, and he’ll sing about it and do it for the world.

Yeah, sounds fair.

“Stay here.” He kisses me on the forehead and disappears for around five minutes. When he returns, he’s holding an open bottle of wine and a board full of cheese, crackers, and fruits. “Gift from your dad. It seemed only fair to celebrate sleeping with his daughter and accepting that gift and giving him a cheers.”

“My dad stays out of our room the way Dustin does.”

He bursts out laughing, sets everything on the nightstand, then grabs his T-shirt off the floor and slips it over my head, careful to make sure my hair doesn’t get tangled then pulls it out smoothing it over my back. The shirt’s long enough that I really don’t need underwear, but he grabs mine anyway and jerks his head toward me.

I stand.

He slowly crouches in front of me, holding them open and I step into them. When he pulls them all the way up my body, I’m on fire again.

He bites out a curse. “We should eat before I eat again.”

“Huh?”

“Now my mouth’s jealous.” He winks and pulls on his jeans, which barely fit around his dick. “First, we eat.”

CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE

Killian

The number of times I curse post sex in my head is alarming. I want to keep her. I’m selfish like that. I told her as much as I felt I could, but even then, I want to open up more, which just reminds me what happened last time I did and the consequences it took on my heart and my band at the time.

I pop a piece of cheese in my mouth then take a swig of the red wine I found in the kitchen and hand it to Scarlett.

She’s gorgeous in my shirt. Damn it, I want to rip it from her. She tilts her head back and takes a swig, then hands it back. “So classy.”

“It was this or wake up the guys and try searching for glasses, I was too afraid to go too close to the other guest bedroom.”

She laughs and then shushes herself. “Sorry, they’re probably completely spent after the day we had.”

“You think we should have tucked them in? Told them a nice non-scary story, mainly for Adrian.”

She nods.

“He will dream of Gertrude often.”

“I call that a nightmare.”

“Bet he’s spooning Dustin while Dustin stresses out over forms and tries to deflect calls from my agent.”

Her face falls. “Is everything really okay?”

“Yeah.” I lie. I hate lying, especially to her. “It’s just… her trying to do her job well and reminding me to stay far, far away from scandal.”

Scarlett hangs her head. “I may as well have that printed on my face at this point.”

I reach for her face and hold it with one hand. “Where? I don’t see it. Should I search for it?” I start kissing her mouth again. She tastes like wine, I could drink it from her mouth. She kisses me back and then her eyes move behind me toward the door and widen.
