“And you pushed me away the next morning.”

“I had to.” I lean my forehead against hers as my fingers work the button on her jeans then the zipper. “I’m afraid to take more.”

She gasps as I slide my hand inside her panties. “What are you afraid of?”

She’s wet, and the feel of her on my fingers is intoxicating. “This.”

“Why?”

“Because if I’m willing to fuck up my whole schedule just to get my eyes on you every morning, what will I fuck up to get a chance to do this every day?”

“What if you didn’t have to fuck up anything? What if you could have me and everything you wanted?”

It’s not possible, but it doesn’t matter because I’m not sure there’s anything I want more than her.

SAVVY

Oliver’s hand’s between my legs, his mouth at my neck. I’m lost to the pleasure of him. The pleasure of this moment.

“Let me take you home,” he says in my ear, even as his fingers continue to play and torment and push me toward the edge faster than I knew I could go. “Jesus, Savvy. I need you in my bed again. I need all of you.” He plunges a finger inside me, and I gasp.

“Here. I want you here.” I fumble with the button on his jeans, and he spins me around, pressing me against the door.

His teeth scrape across my bare shoulder. “What do you do to me? I’m not fucking you in a utility room.”

I free him from his briefs. He’s hard and heavy in my palm, harder with each stroke of my fist. “What if I ask nicely?”

“Christ.” He shoves my jeans and panties from my hips in one rough movement. I shimmy out of them, kicking them to the side. “You’re sure?”

“Please.” His fingers are gone, and my sex pulses with the loss. “Now.”

All I know is need. I need him. His grip is rough as he lifts me off the ground and holds me between the door and his hard body. And when he drives into me—

“Oliver . . .” It’s good. So good. “Yes.”

“Savvy. Fuck, Savvy.”

I wrap my legs around his waist and my arms around his neck. His mouth claims mine, and my body squeezes around him. I tangle my fingers in his hair as he pumps into me.

“You feel so good. Too good.” He buries his face in the crook in my neck, his short beard abrading the sensitive skin there. “I’ve wanted this too long. Thought about it too many times . . .”

He slows his thrusts. Is he trying to hold on? I want him to let go.

I tug on his hair. “Don’t stop.”

“I’ve got you, sweetheart.” He releases one thigh and snakes his hand between our bodies, finding my clit again. Stroking. Circling. Teasing. Stroking again. At first, it’s too much. I’m spread open and sensitive. But his touch is intoxicating, and once I have it, I want more. More.

His thrusts are shallow, his breathing is uneven, and I know he’s holding back. Trying to bring me to the brink first, and I’m so close. I’m right there.

“Harder,” I breathe against his ear. “Oliver, just take me.”

“Savvy . . .” He comes unleashed. His hips jerk unevenly then in long, deep thrusts that threaten to break the door. I love it and meet him stroke for stroke, biting his neck to keep from crying out as my body clenches in its final release.

He presses deep, following right behind with a shudder I feel in my core.

When his breathing slows, he guides my legs to the ground, but he doesn’t pull out or release me right away. He holds my face in both hands and kisses me more tenderly than I’ve ever known him to do anything. “You wreck me in the best way,” he murmurs against my lips.

I smile. “Now you can take me home.”

He nips my bottom lip then slowly withdraws, only to freeze when he steps away. “Savvy?”

It’s so dark in here. I wish I could see his face. I need to know if it matches the panic in his voice. Don’t pull away. Don’t shut me out. “What’s wrong?”

“Shit.” He takes another step back. I feel it more than see it. “Baby, I wasn’t wearing protection.”

My jaw drops. I’m never careless about this. Even when Chuck begged to have me without a condom, I refused. Maybe I didn’t trust him even then. “It’s okay,” I say, trying to convince myself as much as him. “It’s . . .” Is it okay? The last few weeks have been so crazy, I’m not sure how long it’s been since my last period. “It should be okay.”

“I’m sorry. Shit. I’m so sorry. If you get pregnant . . .”

“Oliver, it’s not your fault. I forgot too.”

He shoves my jeans at me. “Get dressed. I want to get you home.”
