She was perfect for me. Fierce, smart, beautiful, and determined. In fact, she was too damn good for me, but that didn’t mean I could fight the emotion that punched me in the chest when I saw her, or stared at her photo.

Unable to stay in place, I have to speak with Dario and explain to him what’s happening. He and Alessio are already in his office. “Dario, Alessio, I am acquiring January for questioning today.”

“Good. She’s a reporter, and she’s been looking into matters more than we already believed. Luca put a recording device in their apartment the other day and recorded her conversation with May. It was very telling.” There’s a smile on my boss’s face. “She plans on listening in on Coleman when she returns, which will not be possible.”

“When she returns?” My eyebrows shoot up and tension rolls through my body.

“Yes. She’s going on a trip with her boss.” Instantly, I’m itching to run the fuck out of his office and hunt her down.

“What the hell do you mean she’s away with her boss?” I roar.

“Yes, he…”

“He?” I don’t realize I’ve pulled my blade out my sheath, ready to stab this boss who is nowhere near me.

“Calm down. You’re supposed to be questioning her about Coleman and the landlord. Is there more?” Alessio asks.

Raging violence sends my mind into overdrive. “He’s got a death wish that I’ll gladly grant.”

“Another one bites the dust,” Alessio says, smirking in amusement. I’m sure they’re both getting a kick out of my newfound change, but nothing is funny to me at the moment.

“I don’t know. They’re in the Ozarks in a cabin doing some reporting, or so that’s what I’m told.” Dario hands over the information.

“The fuck they are.”

“They have a head start on you. According to the audio, they left this morning. They should be there in a few hours,” Dario adds.

“I need to get there.”

“You need to be careful. He’s a national reporter, and too many dead bodies around the girls will be obvious.” I hear his warning loud and clear.

“Understood. I need to get there before they do. If he gets her into a cabin alone, anything can happen.”

“You’re right. So take the plane, load a Rover, and have Vito fly you to the closest landing strip and drive the rest of the way. I’m sure you’ll make it before they do,” Alessio says.

“See, that’s why he’s my second,” Dario adds.

“And I thought you were losing your edge,” I say to Alessio.

“I won’t let another man get a hold of my woman. She gives you shit, tie her up and toss her in the trunk,” he adds.

“Another good one.”

“I hate to say this, Enrico, but don’t kill the reporter yet. I know it’s not fair and you’re going to want his head, but we have witnesses knowing she left with him, and if she appears with you, we’ll be implicated immediately. He’s a nationwide sensation.”

“Understood, loud and clear. I only want her.”

“Good. I’ll get you anything else you need, but for now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to prepare for my queen, and you have to find a way to get the story from your reporter.”

I charge out of the room, sliding my knife into the sleeve and head straight to my vehicle. I call Vito next. “We have a mission, and I need you now.”

“I just got a text from Dario. He said prepare the plane.”

“Yes, we’re flying over the Ozarks.”

“Oh, so you need a drop?”

“Yes, but I’ll need a ride back.”

“Okay. I’ll load the vehicle, too. I can land at a secure location and you can drive the rest of the way there.” That’s the plan Alessio suggested, but I’m fucking antsy as fuck and want to get to her as soon as possible.

“It would be faster to fly me over and drop me off at her location and then meet me with the vehicle.”

“It would be, but that’s more dangerous,” Vito reminds me.

“I don’t give two fucks. He’s alone with my woman in a cabin in the woods.”

“Okay. I’ll be ready.”

“Sounds good to me. Meet me in twenty minutes. I’m loading what I need.”

“Let’s do this.” He’s always down for some fun, without question. As long as it involves flying, Vito is game.

We arrive at the airport and load the plane. There’s just one problem. I need exact coordinates, just in case he moves them from the cabin listed in their itinerary that was given to the station. I call Dario, who suddenly seems irritated. “I can’t talk right now. Call Flavio. He’ll have everything you need. Tell him I said it’s priority number one.”

“Thanks.”

I call him next. “Hey, Enrico. What’s up, man?”

“I need you to give me the location for a phone.”

“Sure. This is all simple shit, you know, right?” he says, getting bold as fuck when I’m in a dangerous mood. He’s fucking lucky that he’s not in front of me and I need this information right now.
