“We’re whatever you want us to be. Fuck, keep doing that.”

“I want us to officially date.”

Her chest rises as a laugh blurts from her mouth. “You want to date?”

“Fuck yeah, I want to date. Would you rather us just be a bedroom item? We can see whoever we want? I can do this to other—fuck.” She’s getting better with her hand movements.

The fuck she will. I slide two fingers into her slick cunt. “Wanna rethink that, babe?” I add another finger, loving the way her hips buck. I know she’s close, so I pull out.

Her head whips up, and her eyes finally open. “What are you doing?”

“Waiting for the answer I want.”

“Seriously? So you stop? What do you want me to say? Let’s go steady? Sure, I’ll wear your football jacket. Just put your fucking mouth back. Fingers too.”

“So, we’re official—”

I draw her into my mouth, thrusting my tongue deep inside her. I sweeten the deal by adding two fingers, allowing one to tease her back hole. The way she squirms under me is heaven. I push the envelope further and coat my finger with her juices, pushing past her back barrier.

My eyes dart to hers, but they’re already closed. “What did you just say?” She doesn’t respond. She’s lights out.

“You good?” I ask Makayla as we climb out of the car. I rewrapped her hands, which are really healing fast. A few more days, and we can just use a light layer of gauze.

“Yeah. All good.” She smiles and climbs out, waiting for me to come to her side.

“What’s that cheesy smile for?” I ask, curious why she’s so happy.

“Who knows? Probably a mixture of meds and an overdose of endorphins. My body, mind, hands, and thigh—all feel on cloud nine.”

I love hearing her say that. It’s exactly how I feel. “Glad I could have been of service. Remember, no funny business in front of Hannah. At least not until after the barbeque. Knowing Hannah, she’ll find some lawyer clause that we didn’t wait the full forty-eight hours. After that, you can sport my jacket and tell everyone we’re going steady.”

She pushes against my chest. “I was under duress when I said that.” I don’t get a rebuttal in because the front door opens.

“Dude, you’re late,” Kip says, walking out. “Gotta grab the extra water from my trunk. Mak,” he gives her a hug. “So sorry about the fire. That scared us all.”

“Thanks, Kip. It was pretty scary.”

“Material things are replaceable. You’re not. Glad you’re okay.” He turns back to me. “Heard you were the fireman on duty. Our very own hero.” Kip slaps me on the back. “Did you drive her here? And you’re both still in one piece? Are we. . . turning a page?” Kip laughs, looking back and forth between us. “Glad to see you two finally getting along.”

“Oh, we’re not,” Mak spits out. “Just here for a barbecue. Probably gonna try to drown him in the pool later.” She looks at me and winks. “Or! We could just be pretending. I’m really living at his place now, and we’re going steady. As long as he keeps doing this one thing with his fingers, I’m gonna get his football jacket so everyone knows he’s mine.”

My mouth drops to the ground. I look over at Makayla, my eyes screaming, what the fuck?

Kip takes a beat, then bursts out in laughter. “Oh, man. You had me there for a second. You two? Getting along enough to date? Everyone watch out for flying pigs.” He waves us off. “See you inside. Gotta get this water.” With a salute, he’s off down the driveway.

Makayla continues to walk up to the house.

“Dude, are you crazy? I thought we discussed keeping it a secret. If Hannah gets wind—”

“It’s more believable that we’re not getting along than that we are. And I just proved it. You’re being paranoid.” No, I’m the proud owner of a one of a kind, signed football I won’t have if Hannah finds out.

I follow Makayla into the Matthews’ house and through the kitchen, exiting the sliding glass door. Great. The first person we spot is Hannah. I grab her shoulder. “Hey, let’s go get a—”

“You two. . . where have you been?” Hannah marches up to us wearing her detective hat. Shit.

“Ben’s,” Mak says nonchalantly. I wish she would drop that cheesy smile. It’s going to give us away.
